I'm perfectly okay with the way the bullpen was managed in the 9th inning. Its a long season, and the bullpen sucks. The closer should only pitch in save situations on the road, that's how the game is played.
Your 'closer' should be your best relief pitcher. So if you're up 1 run in the 8th you wouldn't bring your closer in because it's not a save situation?

It does please me seeing Papelbon so sad. Wish it didn't have to come at the expense of the Phils.

Tonight's hurt way more than last night..

the choice to play the infield in on Martine ended up costing the game..but that's a call Sandberg shouldn't have to make if paps could have been effective at all

Cuz even if you only get the out at second...you end up with the winning run on first with two outs.

No, not in April, not in game #2. Closers aren't groomed to pitch more than 1 inning anymore, haven't been for a few decades now, and Papelbon is breaking down.

Opening day: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Texas Rangers 3/31-4/2

Paps is cooked. when your velocity drops on your fastball. and nvr relied on an outpitch this is what will happen.
