Opening Day: Atlanta Braves @ Milwaukee Brewers 3/30-4/2

    @

    Atlanta Braves @Milwaukee Brewers

    Monday, 2/31 1:10 PM

Julio Teheran, RHP (3.20 ERA/3.69 FIP/3.76 xFIP) vs Yovani Gallardo, RHP (4.18 ERA/3.89 FIP/3.74 xFIP)

Coming off a stellar rookie season during which he posted a 2.81 ERA in his final 27 starts, Teheran has been given his first career Opening Day assignment. Opponents hit .199 against him in seven afternoon starts last year.

Gallardo will set a club record with his fifth straight Opening Day start, one shy of Ben Sheets' mark for career Brewers openers. Gallardo is aiming to bounce back from a 2013 filled with personal and professional trials.

    Tuesday, 3/1 8:10 PM

Alex Wood, LHP (3.13 ERA/2.65 FIP/3.18 xFIP) vs Kyle Lohse, RHP (3.35 ERA/4.08 FIP/4.03 xFIP)

Wood flashed his tremendous potential as he posted an 0.90 ERA in five August starts last year. The 23-year-old southpaw creates deception with a funky delivery and primarily uses a knuckle curve as his secondary pitch.

Lohse was the Brewers' best starting pitcher in 2013 but will start the second game of 2014. After signing at the end of Spring Training last year, he led the team with 20 quality starts, a 3.35 ERA and 198 2/3 innings.

    Wednesday, 3/2 1:10 PM

Aaron Harang, RHP (5.40 ERA/4.79 FIP/4.38 xFIP) vs Matt Garza, RHP (3.82 ERA/3.88 FIP/3.73 xFIP)

Harang signed with Atlanta after being released by the Indians on March 24. After struggling through the first five months of last season with the Mariners, he posted a 3.52 ERA in four September starts with the Mets.

The Brewers considered holding Garza for Game 4 of the season in Boston, but opted instead to maximize his starts over the season. His $50 million, four-year deal is the richest in club history for a free agent.

You know you're decimated when Aaron Harang is your #3 starter but going to have to rely on that offense and pen to hold us off for the first month or so until we get reinforcements.

PITCHERS (12): Luis Avilan, Ryan Buchter, David Carpenter, David Hale, Aaron Harang, Craig Kimbrel, Gus Schlosser, Julio Teheran, Ian Thomas, Anthony Varvaro, and Jordan Walden and Alex Wood.
CATCHERS (3): Ryan Doumit, Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird.

INFIELDERS (6): Freddie Freeman, Chris Johnson, Tyler Pastornicky, Ramiro Pena, Andrelton Simmons and Dan Uggla.

OUTFIELDERS (4): Jason Heyward, Jordan Schafer, B.J. Upton and Justin Upton.
Congrats on the guys making the roster. Ian Thomas had a very impressive spring...feeling confident with him as that lefty in the pen.

    And as for the lineup.

    Braves: Batting order taking shape

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez has hinted as Opening Day approaches that Chris Johnson could slot in as the club's cleanup hitter. It's been apparent since the start of camp that Jason Heyward, B.J. Upton and Freddie Freeman would hit in the top three spots, respectively, but it now seems that Johnson may have laid claim to the No. 4 spot.

"I like Chris Johnson there," Gonzalez said recently. "He gives you good at-bats. He's a guy who is not going to change his approach. He's a guy who is going to put the ball in play and use the whole field. It seems like he comes up with some big at-bats."

Johnson finished second in the NL last season with a .321 average, and he hit .336 with runners in scoring position.

If Johnson does wind up in the cleanup role, he will likely be followed by Justin Upton in the No. 5 spot. Gonzalez will then need to decide between Dan Uggla and Evan Gattis for the next two spots, while shortstop Andrelton Simmons will hit eighth.

    Freeman
    C.J
    J-up
    Gattis

the lineup will work if B.J isn't **** and C.J keeps up his BABIP power. If not..then J-up back in the 2 spot.

2-1 would be amazing. I could tolerate 1-2.

We are facing 3 solid starters right out of the gate so it will be a good test, I'm hoping for a series win.

This makes me look back on my time I spent in Milwaukee while recruiting. We would do the Color Guards for the Brewers for their Opening Day games and they actually opened up against the Braves in 2011. I was able to hang out on the field before the game during batting practice and talk with a bunch of the players.
