Atlanta Braves @Milwaukee Brewers
Monday, 2/31 1:10 PM
Julio Teheran, RHP (3.20 ERA/3.69 FIP/3.76 xFIP) vs Yovani Gallardo, RHP (4.18 ERA/3.89 FIP/3.74 xFIP)
Coming off a stellar rookie season during which he posted a 2.81 ERA in his final 27 starts, Teheran has been given his first career Opening Day assignment. Opponents hit .199 against him in seven afternoon starts last year.
Gallardo will set a club record with his fifth straight Opening Day start, one shy of Ben Sheets' mark for career Brewers openers. Gallardo is aiming to bounce back from a 2013 filled with personal and professional trials.
Tuesday, 3/1 8:10 PM
Alex Wood, LHP (3.13 ERA/2.65 FIP/3.18 xFIP) vs Kyle Lohse, RHP (3.35 ERA/4.08 FIP/4.03 xFIP)
Wood flashed his tremendous potential as he posted an 0.90 ERA in five August starts last year. The 23-year-old southpaw creates deception with a funky delivery and primarily uses a knuckle curve as his secondary pitch.
Lohse was the Brewers' best starting pitcher in 2013 but will start the second game of 2014. After signing at the end of Spring Training last year, he led the team with 20 quality starts, a 3.35 ERA and 198 2/3 innings.
Wednesday, 3/2 1:10 PM
Aaron Harang, RHP (5.40 ERA/4.79 FIP/4.38 xFIP) vs Matt Garza, RHP (3.82 ERA/3.88 FIP/3.73 xFIP)
Harang signed with Atlanta after being released by the Indians on March 24. After struggling through the first five months of last season with the Mariners, he posted a 3.52 ERA in four September starts with the Mets.
The Brewers considered holding Garza for Game 4 of the season in Boston, but opted instead to maximize his starts over the season. His $50 million, four-year deal is the richest in club history for a free agent.
