Washington Nationals (0-0) -New York Mets (0-0)
STRASBURG: This will be his third consecutive Opening Day start. In 2012, against the Cubs, Strasburg pitched seven innings, allowed one run and struck out five in a 2-1 victory. The following season, Strasburg pitched seven shutout innings vs. the Marlins.GEE: With left elbow soreness forcing Jon Niese to the disabled list, Gee will make his first career Opening Day start in Niese's place. No Mets pitcher was better late last year than Gee, who went 10-5 with a 2.71 ERA from May 30 through season's end.
GONZALEZ: In 2013, Gonzalez didn't have the season that he had the previous year, but Gonzalez still won 11 games, had a respectable 3.36 ERA and struck out 192 batters. He would like to reach 200 innings for the first time as a member of the Nationals.COLON: Looking to replace injured starter Matt Harvey in their rotation, the Mets gave Colon a two-year, $20 million contract to come to Flushing. Colon may be 40 years old but is coming off one of his best seasons (18-6, 2.65 ERA with the A's).
ZIMMERMANN: Zimmermann was the best pitcher in Washington's rotation last year. Zimmermann was able to win a team-leading 19 games, reach 200 innings and was invited to his first All-Star Game in 2013.WHEELER: Just as Matt Harvey did a year ago, Wheeler is looking to break out in his first full big league season. The 23-year-old has done nothing but improve since making his debut last June, and is coming off a strong Grapefruit League campaign.
