I believe the Jets are getting 4 Compensatory picks.

I'm hoping at least one of them is a 4th rounder.
    Go Knicks!

Raiders fan. Maybe we get a 6th or 7th rounder at best...

Teams can only get 3 total comp picks in a given year. Also, no more than 32 are handed out total.

    Jets might get a 4th for Landry, but I'm guessing it'll be a 5th.

There's a decent chance the Packers actually do get a 3rd for Jennings. The picks are largely based on the yearly salary of the player that was lost, and I don't think the Packers signed anyone worth noting last year.

Niners could potentially land a 3rd since we brought almost nobody of note in during FA last year and Goldson landed a pretty substantial contract.

I don't think teams deserve them. It doesn't make much sense to me that a team gets compensated because they don't retain a player.

Hmm I didn't know that, I always just assumed they'd have 12, that's what I kept hearing. 11 is still good lol

I'm excepting a couple of picks for Cox and pot roast. We did get some free agents but they were all on smaller contracts.

Thats actually not true the Max is 4 here you go for a link

Let's first try and explain how this works.

The NFL does not disclose the actual formula used to determine compensatory picks. So all assumptions are based on past history.

    Compensatory picks can't be traded.

Teams can earn a maximum of four compensatory picks.

The compensatory picks are distributed at the end of rounds three through seven, depending on unrestricted free agents lost compared to unrestricted free agents signed in the previous offseason.

Annual salary and playing time are believed to be key factors when determining the value of a player lost and/or gained.

I think Jennings and Wallace will be the most likely to net 3rd round picks.

Wallace will almost certainly net PIT a 3rd. His 12M/season contract and the fact that he started all 16 games in MIA seem like they'd guarantee a 3rd. And while is production didn't match his contract, he still had just under 1000 yards and 5 TDs.

I sort of agree, especially if a team is just being cheap, but some teams do get pillaged during FA because some shmuck overpays for a FA and drives up the price. Plus you have that "poison pill" nonsense that was going on with the Vikings and Seahawks in the mid 2000s that made it impossible to retain their own players.

I think it's another great tool (along with the salary cap obviously) the NFL uses to reward smart drafting and keep the parity.
