Wow they are saying Perez was "weeping" on the field after his line drive hit Chapman.

Chapman hit in the face with a line drive

    My god. Hope he's okay.

This brings up memories of Brice Florie, easily the worst ball to the head I've ever seen/heard.

I agree, but one way to help them protect themselves is to teach young pitchers the Greg Maddux mechanics, so they end up in a fielding position, rather than like Chapman, where they are landing off balance with their bodies facing away from the plate.

It does have some help for giving pitchers mobility when the ball is being rocketed back at them.

Hopefully that's it. Wouldn't surprise me if we hear a broken orbital bone and/or concussion. But if it won't affect his vision (long term at least), then he dodged a bullet thankfully.

    Cincinnati Enquirer last update:
UPDATE: ‪#‎Reds‬ pitcher Aroldis Chapman has cuts and bruises over his left eye but never lost consciousness after being hit in the face by a line drive.

He was carted off the field a bit ago after the line drive in the exhibition game against the Royals.

    C. Trent Rosecrans continues to report from the field
Extremely unfortunate. Hopefully this doesn't hurt his vision and it's only bruises and cuts. Definitely be praying for him and his family. I also read his dad ran on the field after the medical team did. His family just got here a few months ago too.

Ouch. Feel bad for the guy. Hope he can return for the reds this year. He's always fun to watch.
