So Here's Who's Left.....Name 3-5 You Like On O and D
Here's a position by position break down of who we might (I stress might, not here to argue of the merits of who's on or not on this list) be interested in. (Nor do I want to hear OMG TED WON'T DO IT cry baby crap.)
Name 3-5 You Like On O and D and explain why if you can.
Defense I would take Jason Hatcher to a two year deal. He knows the 3-4 and still can play a position better than anyone we currently have.
Safety DeCoud we have no depth at the spot maybe let him compete for a starting spot.
ILB Brandon Spike if it was a friendly deal. The guy is a great run stuffer.
Offense: I really don't care much maybe Owen Daniels I think he would be a good fit.
Flynn he knows are whole system and he fits well into the role of a solid backup.
I wish there was game cut ups of players in the NFL like college so I could show you DeCoud last year. He was MD Jennings getting paid 4 million. He's terrible.
IDK maybe he can get it back but he's so bad. I wouldn't even waste my time.
I like all your other picks a ton. Hatcher seems like he might be a bit expensive but a versatile solid dude. The guy I like over there is Spencer. Two years ago he went off in a 34, before that he was kind of meh a lot but then the injury. IDK, seems worth a shot.
Matt Flynn: just a good solid backup that knows the system...
Owen Daniels: a solid productive TE, when healthy... will buy us some time to develop Bostick and Lyerla(or whoever we draft)
BJ Raji: sign him to that "prove it" deal, loaded with incentives... move him back to NT... nothing to lose, everything to gain...
James Starks: I love him as a backup to Lacy... should be pretty cheap...
John Kuhn: contributes on ST, solid pass blocker, not sure if Lacy is there yet in that regard... cheap
then see how the draft shakes out... and fill in a couple spots before training camp
so basically follow TT's commandments
I keep hearing the NT thing and I just don't get it completely. I do think he fits better at NT but I don't like him at full time NT. Lots of people (not you) think oh put him back at NT, and 7 sacks again. That's how they come off. If we're worried about his effort, playing nose won't help
I hear you... the only way I can think to motivate him is with incentives, 1 year 4mil, but get me 6 sacks and 40 tackles, it bumps to 7-8mil... when I say play him at NT, I'm thinking not so much as a space eater but as a penetrator up the middle... I just think he's his best going forward, not holding ground, which is odd for a 330lb man, but that's what he is and what made him special once... in theory it should still demand double teams... but the reality is, I really don't know what to do or think about him, I wish we could hear more than just coach speak from Trgovac, really know what Raji's deal is... if they internally think his heart isn't in it, then don't bother...
Since I didn't really say you can't just pick the best guys lol
Matt Flynn. Or Hill. Obvious reasons.
Garrett Graham. A younger Daniels with more potential and no injury risk
Kuhn. Our Swiss army knife and will come cheap.
EDS. Well, we still need a center right?
Jacoby Ford. Worth a flier. Speed kills
Anthony Spencer. Outstanding 34 year two years ago.
Alex Carrington. So versatile and getting better Should come cheap.
Daryl Smith. What's there to say?
Wesley Woodyard this is my guy. Dude runs like cheetah, he's not a run stuffer but he can run sideline to sideline and cover and he'll run down most any QB in this league or backs on the outside. Has some pop when he's hitting out there. Was just all last year and playing a position that doesn't fit him. He would be great next to Hawk IMO.
Woodyard is a bit like him. But convert some of Shazier's kill the ball carrier attitude more to coverage.
Woodyard looked like he was going to become an elite OLB to me in 2012 very shortly. Then he got "benched" after they played him at Mike (he was hurt) and now it's like he doesn't exist.
I keep saying, I wish there was NFL cut ups and highlight tapes. That kid was a monster in 012. He's kind of what we ask for in there as far as coverage and he's got a bit of a 'tude at times. Not near the awesome recklessness of Shazier though.
