Build around three current MLB players...who do you choose?

    For me:

    Trout, Molina, and Kershaw

gives me a starter, a CF, and a C for at least five years at the min.

Note: You have to carry their contracts too.

Yeah, building around Harper over Molina makes a lot of sense of course.

But it's so difficult to find a high quality catcher for five+ years. Posey would also be an acceptable answer too.

But if you don't want a catcher at that point, than taking Harper would be the next obvious choice.

    CF - Trout
    RF - Harper
    SP - Kershaw

That's 10 years of hall of fame talent potentially in three positions.

I look for Salvatore Perez to keep taking steps forward... He reminds me a lot of Molina

    1000% agree.

I thought about him while I was typing that post.

    Trout, Harper, Tulo

Strongly considered Simmons, who is a badass young SS. A C might have been an option but only Molina comes to mind.

Yeah, there isn't that one, completely dominant, elite young catcher in today's baseball.

Posey a year ago might have been a good option, and he probably still is. But he fell off people's radars for some reason. His line drive rate and hr/fb rates dropped from the year prior. But Posey is still a great option, and he is obviously younger than Molina.

But ideally, a team would have a CF/SS, a good young catcher, and a good young ace.

If you had a team of:

    C - Molina - 6 WAR
    1B - 2 WAR
    2B - 2 WAR
    3B - 2 WAR
    SS - 2 WAR
    LF - 2 WAR
    CF - Trout - 10 WAR
    RF - 2 WAR

    SP
    Kershaw - 7 WAR
    SP - 2 WAR
    SP - 2 WAR
    SP - 2 WAR
    SP - 2 WAR

    CP - 1 WAR
    RP - 0.5 WAR
    RP - 0.5 WAR
    RP - 0.5 WAR
    RP - 0.5 WAR

That's a 46 WAR team, but that implies no true weaknesses. But this is a team with just three great players, and nothing else that is that special.

It's either Tulo/Trout/Harper or Posey/Tulo/Harper for me. I just outright forgot about Posey. Trout/Harper for the future is still pure preference to me.

Your second group doesn't have Trout at all?

    And no pitchers?
