Bruins claim Corey Potter off of Waivers

Ryan Rishaug reported it. Not a bad pickup.

    Depth.

    Probably means two things:

    1. McQuaid's injury is more significant than we imagined.

    2. They do not trust the guys in Providence to be the depth defensemen at the NHL level - yet.

I haven't followed Potter since he left the Rangers organization but I really liked him at one point than his last two years or so in Hartford he was not that great defensively...he was pretty horrible at the blue line...always letting pucks get by him and resulting in an odd man rush for the opposing team and was shaky defensively.

I may be confusing him with someone else though...anyways this was several years back so perhaps Potter has evolved.

No you're thinking of the right player. He has evolved his game since then. The Bruins system will allow him to be a physical, defensive presence when we need it.

He will more than likely be a #8 defensemen. I think another move for a defensemen is coming. He won't cost much anyway.

Isn't he the one from New Bedford mass? I might be thinking of someone else, but I thought it was him.

That's good to hear! I remember he was once a fairly decent prospect who had some promise given his size.

I really don't mind this pickup at all...great way to add some depth and gives some insurance in case we need someone to log some minutes.

pure depth signing, but like i just said in another thread we are an injury away on defense from being in some serious trouble. Potter is at least serviceable.
