Why does LeBron James Have a Field Goal Percentage of About 60%?

Lebron James is averaging 27.5 points on 17 shots with a field goal percentage of .583

This is incredible. At first I thought with time it will go down but it has gone up. He has improved his post game, mid range game and 3 point game. He has hit 83 three pointers already with a near .400 percentage.

    Is he just that good?

.583 is far from .600 but yeah, I didn't think he'd be able to sustain it. Last year, he was .565. The year before he was .531. I don't know how that happens. Crazy efficiency. Not to mention .531 would be INCREDIBLE for many players. Not many even crack .500 ONCE.

well, unlike other great perimeter scorers, he doesn't shoot a lot of long jumpers unless he is hitting them, and uses his jumper to set up his drive. He has gotten to the point where he is such a capable shooter, teams need to run hard at him, and stay in his grill, which allows him to just blow by opponents and get to the rim.

He used to get to the rim without a jumper with ease. Since he got that he the jumper, he is pretty much unstoppable.

And he focuses on efficiency....it's not like he is just throwing shots up there to put them up and hope they fall.

Getting his jumper and three ball to start falling has helped him get to the rim more....which is raising his field goal percentage.

How many times did he take a long 2 pointer last night? What? 4 out of 33 shots?

Lebron is a really efficient shooter. He knows what shots he can make and is patient in looking for those shots. He can create some high pct shots as well. Add a few fast break dunks and you get a high pct.

In the playoffs vs good defensive teams where the pressure is on him to score more, that efficiency can go down, since he may be forced to shoot lower pct shots.

that is basically every player though, because you play a series, where your team is heavily scouted and prepared for each game, and you don't get to play crappy teams that bump up your numbers like in the regular season.

Lebron is 29 years old. HE IS NOT past his prime yet, his stats are supposed to be unrealistically higher because after his prime, everything goes south. Most of his career LBJ struggled in the 4th quater producing no points he lacks a consistent jumpshot so he uses athleticism to attack the rim that's why his FG% is so high.. But he isn't even top 40 on 3FG%, how is this possible?

People say he's taking smarter shots but while that is also true, to what extent does this drop? Will he hit 60 FG%+ next season? This will probably be his peak in terms of scoring efficiency but for someone to put that many points under that efficiency? Barkley and Malone are the only two who I think put up those type of numbers but they played more to the basket than James ever did. Just insane. When you have the same FG% while scoring more points than Dwight Howard - who only dunks, it's pretty damn impressive.

Transition points, getting to the rim, few jump shots.

Like Hawk said, when his jumper isn't falling, he passes more and slashes at will. When he slashes, the ball will go in 8 out of 10 times. When his jumper is on, it seems like he can make 10 jumpers in a row no matter where they are from.
