Opening Day a national holiday? Yes, please.

I believe in baseball more than any god. You could say it is my religion. Opening Day should be one of observance.

Declare Major League Baseball Opening Day a national holiday.

Baseball fans argue about quite an array of topics, but I think we can all agree to sign this petition: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pet...liday/3XNmgfBb

While I appreciate that baseball has attempted national exposure, I hate that OD is out of the US so often.

I want OD on a Saturday, every year. (first Saturday in April)

And it has fireworks, and the first pitch is thrown in Cincy ever year (where baseball began)

    And it's a national holiday!

I love baseball but the only sports related national holiday that should exist is the day after the Super Bowl. It's the most called out of work day all year round.

Yeah, no. If the Super Bowl doesn't get one, opening day of baseball isn't getting one (nor should it).

If they really want to make Opening Day a holiday, the first step would be to stop these stupid international games and the Sunday Night game.

Opening Day should be Opening Day for all 30 teams. And it's Opening DAY not Opening Night.

The Reds should start at 12:35 eastern, and they get 30 minutes by themselves. Then a bunch of 1:05 and 2:05 games, and then west coast games at 4:05 eastern.

When that happens, then you can start talking about making it a holiday.

We need less national holidays, and not more.

I think most working people in the United States would disagree with you (myself included).

exactly. billions and billions of dollars and lost productivity.
its not hard to take a day off work, if you really want to watch.
there's a pretty substantial chunk of the population that doesn't care about baseball, and couldn't care less about opening day.

As much as I love opening day and the 1st month of baseball, it shouldn't.

butttttttttttttt, if opening day is a holiday, more people will be off work, therefore increasing ticket prices that day and making it a zoo everywhere else since nobody is working. I like the way it is now. I take off at noon for my O's when they have their opening game at 3:05 pm every year. I don't want a million other people trying to do the same. Opening day tickets are expensive enough as it is. Just leave it be. I love baseball, but it would not be advantageous to hardcore fans because everyone else who cares a little bit will be trying to go to the games.

If they can't make the Monday after the Super Bowl a holiday, or at least change it to SuperBowl Saturday there is no way this is happening.
