Knicks are pursuing a deal for Free agent Earl Clark

Y! Sources: The New York Knicks are pursuing a deal with free agent forward Earl Clark.

The New York Knicks are pursuing a deal with free-agent forward Earl Clark, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Knicks are trying to sign two defensive-minded players before meeting the Miami Heat on Thursday in Miami, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

After acquiring him in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, Philadelphia released Clark, 26, and he cleared waivers to become a free agent.

The Knicks created two roster openings Monday when they agreed to buyouts with Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.

Clark, who is 6-foot-10, averaged 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds for the Cavaliers this season. His best pro season was 2012-13 with the Los Angeles Lakers, when he averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, earning him a two-year, $9 million deal with Cleveland during the summer.

Clark was the 14th overall pick by the Phoenix Suns in the 2009 NBA draft .

Clark would be a nice player to get. Sign him to two year deal, he is at least good enough to be end of the bench player. If he proves he can be more than that, we can re-sign him in 2015 without affecting cap space too much.

"This is a guy, we recognize his talent, and his skill is the kind of skill and talent that gets you through playoff games where things get sticky, grind-out, and basketball becomes a force game and suddenly you need to have a player who has the capabilities of scoring with someone hanging on them in a situation thatís critical. Heís one of those players, one of the few players who can do that.Ē

We also brought in Dahntay Jones for a workout. I can jive with him, I've wanted him for the past few years. Committed and talented defender who can hit the open 3.

I like this. He can play SF/PF and adds a defensive presence there that we don't have.

Clark is younger, slightly taller and may be a better fit for the future. Plus, there was clearly a disconnect between Woodson and MWP and the Knicks released him so, as a veteran, he could have a chance to join a strong playoff team. Because Woodson didn't like him and he preferred playing Melo 40+ minutes to giving MWP some time it wasn't going to work here. The Knicks at least earn respect by letting the veterans that have something to offer contenders free to join those contenders and try to compete for championship --Which is why they signed with NY in the first place.

Earl Clark is 2 yrs. removed from being PER 12 and 16 player in 48 mpg at the SF and PF position. He can score, he can help defend, he's more fundamentally sounded than what we have. And more mobile, he also can spot a bit at C. Which I think will be the spot he ultimately provides for. B/c if you can do it for SF/PF, you can definitely do it for the C spot in this day of NBA play. I mean he'll do way more at that spot than a Jason Collins LOLS.
