    That's a great deal.

You just have to shake your head every time the yankees do something. The sole reason why you sign Ellsbury to a 7 year 155 million deal is because you have no intention of extending or signing Gardner to play centerfield. Why sign Ellsbury in the first place if you had every intention on keeping Gardner?!? It serves no purpose having two light hitting outfielders who probably won't even be stealing many bases in a couple of years. It would have made much more sense to extend Gardner and give Granderson a new deal, not to mention cheaper.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect.

    Andy Martino ‏@MartinoNYDN 26s
WAR over past 5 seasons: Brett Gardner, 18; Jacoby Ellsbury, 17.5, Michael Bourn, 17.1. So Garner contract pretty team-friendly
Granted Ellsbury missed 273 games in that time but Gardner has missed 232 games over that same span as well. So all in all, this is a much better deal imo than Ellsbury's contract even if Jacoby has the higher ceiling (understanding extensions are not usually the same leverage as FA).
