    Chris Young vs Cruz

So the orioles just signed Cruz for 1 yr 8 mil, max value 8.75 if he hits every incentive in the deal. We signed Chris young for 7.25 mil 1 yr, and based off of Terry's comments about playing eyjr I would guess we're going to see Chris young in cf pretty often instead of lagares.

Anyone care to explain to me what the hell they're thinking?

Smart money says that Cruz would have significantly more trade deadline value than Chris Young. Not to mention Young hasn't hit well in a few years, and at his best he wasn't as good as Cruz. Better defense sure, but this team needs hitters. An outfield of Cruz granderson in the corners and either lagares or eyjr in center is still good defensively and the lineup would've been so much more complete. We can offer Drew 9.5 mil for 1 yr but we can't offer Cruz a little bit more than Young? Ugh

Cruz costs a first round pick? And Young has more potential as he can do a lot more on defense and has power potential also.

Looks like Drew's price just went way down

I seriously am hating Sandy Alderson right now.

Even WITH Chris Young signed, how do you not offer Nelson Cruz 1 year, $10 million and get him?

He could've been an ideal bat next to David Wright and Curtis Granderson.

Ugh. He was on roids, but the guy hit 27 HR in 2/3 of a season last year.

Cruz wouldn't have cost a 1st rounder he would've cost a 3rd rounder bc our 1st round is protected and we lost our 2nd round signing Granderson. We will lose that same 3rd rounder if we sign Drew.

As for Chris Young is better than Cruz, I think that's legitimately absurd. Cruz is a proven slugger with a track record of success. in youngs best season he still hit what .250? .260? Off the top of my head I don't remember but Young is not good. He hit .205 last year with minimal power and steals and you're honestly saying he's better than Cruz?

Young is better on defense than Cruz. We all know that. Beyond that please explain how you think Chris Young is better than Cruz. Their offense really isn't even remotely close and we desperately need professional hitters, middle of the order bats with true established power. A legitimate threat to protect wright and grandy, if you think Chris Young is scaring pitchers I suggest you put down the pipe

Chris Young is better than Nelson Cruz, sorry to inform you. Cruz has been a below average outfielder for the past 3 years (1.1, 1.5, 1.3 fWAR). His defense is atrocious and outside of one season (2010), he hasn't done anything exceptional offensively. He'll be 34 in July and he's a freshly minted 50 game juice award winner.

Nelson Cruz is pure garbage at this point in his career. Choosing him over Young (and surrendering a 3rd rounder on top of that) would have been a ludicrous move.

EYJ is not starting on opening day unless someone is injured. I think we all know this, so why bother pretending like there's any chance that he'll start? He won't.

A declining .200 hitter is better than Nelson Cruz?

For $10 mil and a 3rd round pick give me Drew, not Cruz.

Yes, Chris Young has 3 out of his last 4 seasons better than any one of Cruz's last 3 seasons. I'll take a buy-low candidate over a mediocre player like Cruz (with picks attached) any day of the week.

I agree with this. I'd rather have Drew than Cruz too if we are looking at 1 year deals for both.

Well at least we all can agree on Drew (all of us besides the Mets FO)
