    Tavares out for Season

New York Islanders forward John Tavares will miss the remainder of the 2013/14 season with the knee injury that he suffered during the Sochi Olympic Games. The injury is to the medial collateral ligament and he also suffered meniscus damage.

The injury could require surgery but a decision will not be made until after Tavares has been examined by Islanders doctors upon returning to the team.

Tavares was injured in Canada's quarter-final victory over Latvia on Wednesday.

The New York Islanders captain was taken into the boards by Arturs Kulda in the second period.

The Isles season was pretty much done anyways... there was no shot of them making the playoffs, and trades are imminent.

Might as well just tank it after the olympics at this point

Wait, who the hell attacks Tavares on here...
You need centerman that can play two ways and if they donít play two ways in the end, you canít win, because the guy you are counting on canít get himself on the right side of the puck enough. So sure he can score, he can score but his team loses every night, I didnít know that was the objective. I thought winning was the objective. So if you centers canít play down the middle, and canít play without the puck, you have no chance.

I've never found any one aspect of Tavares' game to be overrated either by the national media or any particular group of people on PSD.

    Go home Brendan, you're drunk.

Overrated? Get real. Granted I don't watch as much islanders games as you, but the guy is 3rd in league scoring on the fifth to last place team. There's something to be said about that

I'm a diehard Rangers fan but even I feel bad for Islander fans (and Tavares) over this. Its a real tough break.

This is why I'm happy that Giroux didn't make the team to be honest. I was a little pissed because I knew he deserved it over guys like Nash, but why would want your star player in harms way? I hate the Islanders but I hope he makes a quick recovery, this really sucks.

Not even just a huge loss for the Isles but the NHL as well. Clearly i'm a Ranger fan but I enjoy going to Isles games just to see him. He's one of the best young forwards in the game and only getting better. A shame he will need to miss the rest of the year. Get well, JT!
