PHI turns in draft pick to NCAA (now suspended) after he goes back to school

What a ****ing unprofessional move by PHI, and I have no doubt this will screw them (phi) over (and rightfully so) if they ever try and draft non college seniors.

Just classless. Not much elaboration needed.

I hope getting that revenge was worth it; they've just done significant damage to player/agent relations going forward.

It would be pretty funny if he signs with someone in the NL East and pans out...

^ the kid should have known better than to have a financial advisor when having talks with a billion dollar company who wants to sign him for up to the next 10 years?

He didn't do anything wrong....it's 'technically' against the rules, on something that is a completely stupid rule and just shows horrible faith by the Phillies....especially when it happens every year to several players/teams in negotiations. Kid wants to go back for a year, received advise from a financial advisor.

Phillies are way over the line here if what we are hearing is true. Even if they technically followed the rules, it's classless.

They also tried to do it to their 6th round pick too.

Actually kinda genius really. Now players will be too scared to not sign or won't bring agents with them

This coming from a Phillies fan.....this is horrible and pathetic. They Phillies are basically saying sign with us and face no repercussions for your actions, don't sign and good luck playing college ball again.
The real 99% are idiots and sheep when you post give me a reason to believe you are part of the 1%.

    This.

Why does the NCAA, it's their idiot rule, expect 17/18 year old kids to be able to negotiate, fairly, with anyone who has the backing of, as Jeffy say, billion dollar companies? It's completely asinine on it's face.

This will hurt the Phillies far more than it will help. Top prospects deserve to have an agent present and they will continue to do so, they probably just don't do it with the Phillies now. I don't think players will be "too scared" not to sign, they'll just re-enter the draft and sign with a team that doesn't mind them using an agent. Some lower level guys may feel the heat and sign for $5,000 but those types likely sign for that anyway. It's the big name prospects that won't like this and I don't see how alienating yourself from top prospects is a good idea.
