Ike says there's "a little bit of shock" he remains a Met but he's happy to be here.

Do you think Syndergaard could pass Wheeler this year as far as the race to be the #2 behind Harvey in 2015?

The Mets' rotation right now doesn't leave a lot of room for him or Montero to break in, until there's an injury. I still prefer Zack over Noah long-term.

What type of ceiling do you see Vic Black having in the bullpen? Set-up guy?
    Klaw (1:42 PM)
    Yes.
    Klaw (1:43 PM)
Vic Black - probably less than that. Hard to see him throwing enough strikes.

The Mets have had some dialogue with free-agent OF Nelson Cruz, but signing him is very unlikely, a source said (Daily News, Feb. 14).

Do not underestimate Thor. You won't like him when he's angry. He might have to drop his hammer.

Terry Collins says there is "scenario" where Murph plays 1B and Eric Young 2B ... But that certainly is not choice No. 1.

    Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 39m
Collins really pushing Eric Young as leadoff hitter. Doesn't bode well for Lagares, it would seem. Says alternatives Tejada, Chris Young

    Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 45m
Terry Collins also said Anthony Seratelli may be most viable backup middle infielder at this point.

    Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 46m
Terry Collins insisted Ruben Tejada has competition for starting shortstop job from Omar Quintanilla. He hasn't been named starter yet.

    Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 48m
Wilmer Flores will play some shortstop during spring training. #mets

    Adam Rubin ‏@AdamRubinESPN 51m
Terry Collins still "leaning toward" Jon Niese for a second straight Opening Day. #

Maybe Sandy will just pull a Billy Beane and trade EYJ before spring training so Terry can't put him in the lineup.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Bobby Parnell, who underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck on Sept. 10, threw off a mound Friday at the Mets spring-training complex for the first time since the procedure.

Terry Collins said Parnell threw only 10 uneventful pitches. Those tosses came with the catcher in front of the plate.

Collins said Parnell's session caught even the manager off guard, since Parnell had indicated he planned to wait an additional two weeks before proceeding with mound work.

However, Parnell met with trainers Friday and switched things up.

"Everybody said go ahead if you feel that good," Collins said.

Collins added that Parnell is his closer, even with the signings of Jose Valverde and Kyle Farnsworth on minor-league deals.

Lagares is going to have to get on base.
