The 2014 roster is, most likely, pretty well set. It's unlikely there'll be anymore big moves before the season starts. But we can still fantasize.
Who, from the LA Dodgers' history, would you like to add to the team for 2014? Note, I'm, for completely arbitrary reasons, limiting this to he Los Angeles Dodgers. That means, no Jackie Robinson. What players' season would you add to this team to help us win the NL West and have a chance at the World Series.
Here's some options
C Mike Piazza 1997 .362/.431/.638 9.1 WAR
1B Eddie Murray 1990 .330/.414/.520 5.9 WAR
2B Davey Lopes 1975 .278/.355/.421 5.1 WAR
3B Adrian Beltre 2004 .334/.388/.629 9.7 WAR
SS Billy Grabarkewitcz 1970 .289/.399/.454 6.1 WAR
OF Matt Kemp 2011 .324/.399/.586 8.4 WAR
OF Pedro Guerrero 1985 .320/.422/.577 7.8 WAR
OF Jimmy Wynn 1974 .271/.387/.497 7.4 WAR
SP Sandy Koufax 1965 26-8 10.2 K/9, 1.9 BB/9, 2.04 ERA, 1.93 FIP, 336 innings, 10.7 WAR
RP Eric Gagne 2003 55 saves, 15 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, 1.20 ERA, 0.86 FIP, 82 innings, 4.4 WAR
Do you take Beltre's monster 2004 season over what you expect Uribe to give us this year?
Or do you want Davey Lopes at 2B instead of the unknown quantity that Guerrero is?
Add Sandy Koufax to the rotation? Gagne to the pen?
Adrian Beltre it's not even close, as great as Piazza was in 1997 Ellis is fine, and I trust him much more going into next year than Uribe, if were going to add 9 war let it be at 3rd, there is no loss to defense, and the infield defense probably needs the most help.
How about replacing the 5th starter with Koufax?
Not to mention having him in the playoffs?
If were going to get into that, there have been a lot of great seasons in by pitchers in the history of the LA Dodgers, I think the infield needs far more help that the rotation though, which is why I'm picking it.
