Hopefully they can get through ST with no major injuries

Jake Arrietta had a shoulder tightness issue and will start behind .

Hoyer says Grimm will be in bullpen

When asked about 3B, Hoyer said they're happy w/Valbuena/Murphy platoon. Taking a we'll-see-what-happens approach with Olt.

Hoyer says Junior Lake projects to get a lot of plate appearances this year, but won't say he's the regular LF. Could play elsewhere.

Why? I'd at least like the first pick this time

Arrieta has already had a setback. The season is officially underway!

Ugh, I forgot what seeing injured players felt like. Thanks, Jake.

Content-rich press conference to open ST.

As mentioned, Arrieta had shoulder tightness and will not start on a full throwing schedule and is not expected to be ready in time for Opening Day.

Fujikawa is throwing off flat ground and may make transition to mound soon.

Valbuena/Murphy is the third-base mix. Even when pressed on Olt, refused to include him.

Wada is in the mix in the rotation.

McDonald got an MLB deal, $1m in the "non-guaranteed but basically guaranteed" way that Ian Stewart got last year.

Villanueva is being stretched out as a starter, Grimm is a reliever.

    Vizcaino is healthy.

Lake will get at-bats, but they aren't locking him down to a position yet and leaving it up to Renteria.

    Murphy and Valbuena... ugh

My small hopes for Olt were one of the few things I was excited about in ST. Sucks about Arrieta too.

They couldn't just hand the job over to a guy who hit .190 in the softball league that is the PCL.

I didn't want the job handed to him. I just wanted an open competition. Plus if he doesn't make the team then who moves from 3rd in Iowa?

    Hey. He hit .197.

    .168 at Iowa.

If he tears it up in ST, they'll find a spot for him on the roster. If not, they'll sort out Iowa when they need to.

They also didn't specifically exclude him. They basically just said "we'll see when he gets here, we hope he does well."
