    The first LF I remember was Kevin McReynolds but I was 6 years old in 1991. Cliff Floyd was the first LF I saw with detailed memory aside from Gilkey's fluke 1996 season.

    I will limit myself to CFers:

    Fave: Del Unser. Good glove and excellent drag bunter
    Best: The obvious choice
    John Maeda@johnmaeda

    i always thought Unser was vastly underrated by mets fans. Very good if not excellent center fielder.
    "Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

    ...but seriously.

    C- Piazza - is tough though easy to pick, but I was a big Hundley fan and. Carter as well.

    1b- Hernandez - again another thought one because I loved Olerud and Delgado too.

    2b- Alfozo - pretty easy decision.

    SS- Reyes - another easy choice.

    3b- Wright - a gimme decision, though I am still a HoJo fan, so he would be second.

    LF- McReynolds - probably one of the few Met fans that liked him.

    CF- Beltran - one of my favorite players ever.

    RF- Strawberry - now I never was a big Strawberry fan, but he is my favorite of all the RF the Mets have had that I seen.

    SP- Gooden - nobody has been more electric than him whEn he was on.

    Cl- Myers - probably the last closer they had that I felt confident in

    Nicely done. The only change I would toss in there from this list is Mookie Wilson as an honorable mention.

    I am not a big fan of your condescending nature, but I've noted a semblance of softening in your posts. I personally appreciate it. Further when I clicked on This is what you missed, I realized you were a good rats fan, and that makes you okay in my book. Peppi Marchello's vocals are unparrallelled.

    this is a tough one, because sometimes it's hard to decipher "favorite" from "best" in my head...but here's a stab:

    Note: my runner-ups are in (brackets):

    1B: John Milner (Hernandez 2nd);
    2B: Edgardo Alfonzo (Felix Millan);
    SS: Jose Reyes (Buddy Harrelson);
    3B: David Wright (Wayne Garrett);
    LF: Cleon Jones (Steve Henderson);
    CF: Lenny Dykstra (Tommy Agee);
    RF: Strawberry (Rusty Staub);
    C: Duffy Dyer (Gary Carter);
    P: Gooden (Jon Matlack);
    Closer: Tug McGraw (Roger McDowell);
    DH: Butch Huskey (Mike Piazza);
    Manager: Davey Johnson (Gil Hodges);
    Pitching Coach: Rube Walker (Bob Apodaca);

    Favorite Forgotten or Obscure Mets

    C. Mike Fitzgerald - in the Carter trade
    1B. Mike Jorgensen - my pop was his commander in the USMC
    2B. Kelvin Chapman - opening day 2Bman in 1981
    3B. Richie Hebner - hated playing in NYC, but was a gravedigger in the off season. Seriously.
    SS. Teodoro Martinez - also known as Omar Quintanilla
    LF. Mike Baxter - the catch
    CF. Del Unser - solid
    RF. Joel Youngblood - productive during the dark, post-Seaver years
    SP: Hank Webb - CB rolled off a table
    RP: Ken Sanders - I dunno

    John Stearns is far and away my favorite Met of all-time. See: Dave Parker and Bill Gullickson. Lol, if only he could have been on the bench the night Clemens threw the sharded bat at Piazza.

    Runner up: Ray Knight...for obvious reasons.

    The Mets were fun when they had testicular fortitude.
