In range with what Hudson got and he's no stranger to hitter conducive ballparks having pitched in Cincinnati for the last 8 years. Solid deal if he replicates his value from the last 2 seasons.

Arroyo has had one good year in the past 3. He's durable but that's about as far as I'd be willing to praise him.

Was hoping he'd wind up in the AL East on any team besides the Jays.

The one thing Arroyo brings consistently every season is his durability. He'll be an innings eater no doubt for the D'Backs.

Seems like a lot for an innings eater.

He has had one bad year in the last 3. He is a solid pitcher you can count on to make his starts and give you an ERA south of 5 most years.

I know the dodgers were interested, I think it was that second year that got Arroyo to sign in Arizona.

    That's worth 23 million over 2 years?

    94 ERA+ over the last three years, 3.17 K/BB, 1.242 WHIP

He's dependable, but that's really his value. He is a back end starter.

As a Cards fan, I'm going to miss him not being in the NL Central

    Career vs the Cards

    8-16, 4.64 ERA, 229 innings in 36 starts

But we'll still see some of him.

Pretty much what I'm saying. He would get crushed in the AL East

54-71 with a career 4.54 ERA against teams over .500

I've watched plenty of Arroyo, he just throws the ball down the middle and around the plate.

Which is fine. He eats innings, stays healthy, doesn't walk guys. But he gets hit hard a lot, and doesn't fool anyone. If you don't have a better 5th man option, he is a fine choice....but I wouldn't give him 11 million a season basically.

I don't agree with this signing, but Towers doesn't think like the rest of us.

He is projected to have the D'Backs 6th best ERA and FIP entering this season

    Current rotation projections

    ERA
    1. Corbin - 3.72
    2. McCarthy - 4.03
    3. Cahill - 4.10
    4. Miley - 4.13
    5. Delgado - 4.28
    6. Arroyo - 4.49

    FIP
    1. Corbin - 3.54
    2. Miley - 3.77
    3. McCarthy - 3.78
    4. Cahill - 3.79
    5. Delgado - 4.17
    6. Arroyo - 4.25

And he is the highest paid pitcher on this staff

His value is that he'll probably pitch 180-220 innings. You can count on him to pitch every fifth day. But he isn't particularly valuable or anything

If I was the D'Backs, I would rather spend that money elsewhere, and let Spurill and Sanabia fight for that 6th man spot in spring. I understand someone will get hurt, let these guys fight for that back end spot.

He's had one below replacement level season, and one season where he was worth 0.8 WAR. So from where I'm sitting it's 2 bad years and one solid one. If you go by ERA he's a solid guy, but that's not how I roll.

FWIW, he has produced 6 rWAR over the last 2 seasons and given 1 WAR is worth 5.5-6 million dollars this offseason (on average), then if he gives the DBacks 4 cumulative rWAR or so the next 2 years it's not a bad deal.

Projections for future fWAR values aren't as generous admittedly though.
