Certainly a very divisive player and person. But as a Red Sox fan I was always very fond of him. Very sad to hear.

Sad. Hope he gets better soon. It says his wife also had cancer. I bet this is hard on him and his family then.

    That is awful.

He isn't well liked, but he was a special pitcher, and you hate to hear about cancer in anyone. Not something to wish on your worse enemies.

As a Cub fan, I've never at all understood why Schill is disliked by fans of baseball. Dude is a genuine living legend.

"If we think we’re going to go out in a seek and destroy mission, this team will just laugh at you. They’ve had people running at them for five years; they know how to deal with it. Going out and thinking we’re going to intimidate the Chicago Blackhawks is nuts. They’ve seen all of that before and they just play right through it.

    Schilling diagnosed with cancer

Always respected him. Opinionated and a great pitcher.

    Get well soon.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was related to smokeless tobacco. I know because I am a user, I'm 19 and yeah the stuff is no good. Get well soon Schilling.

I'm not gonna lie and say I was a big Schilling fan, but you never want something like this to happen to anybody. He's had a really tough time since retiring, with his game company folding and now the cancer you just gotta feel for the guy.

I wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

Get well Curt, I like Schilling even though I'm a Yankee fan. Loved what he did for the Phillies, D-Backs and Red Sox.

Hopefully he'll fight it off soon(heard his statement on having cancer, he seems to be in good spirits which is great to hear).
