    Semyon Varlamov re-signs in Colorado

to a five year 29.5M deal. That's 5.9M annual cap.

    Get paid.

But the way the Goalie market is today, looking at teams like Philly, Toronto, Edmonton, etc. trying to find a goalie for multiple years, this is a good move. Solid for both sides.

That said, I still think Varly is overrated and I have an irrational dislike for him.

Everyone mentions Philadelphia as the goalie graveyard but boy, Washington is pretty damn rough too.

Irrational? Allegedly stomping on your girlfriends chest makes it rational in my world.

Who here in this forum has not done that, though?

My point of this thread was, another average starter making 6M per year. It's crazy.

Oh I agree. I think it's a dumb move. He had a 3.03 and .903 last year. He's having a very good year but goalies fluctuate all the time. Throw in the off the ice BS and I don't get were this need to lock him up long term comes from.

Meet your new Mike Smith. All of these goalie deals making me feel better and better about Howard's contract (even if he did start of shaky this year).
You need centerman that can play two ways and if they donít play two ways in the end, you canít win, because the guy you are counting on canít get himself on the right side of the puck enough. So sure he can score, he can score but his team loses every night, I didnít know that was the objective. I thought winning was the objective. So if you centers canít play down the middle, and canít play without the puck, you have no chance.

I'm noticing a crazy trend.... Any time a player signs an extension, everyone here says the player is overpaid

As we've been over every other thread:
    1) Cap is going up
    2) player salaries are going up

A team was going to pay Varlamov, the Avs knew that and so did his agent. Nothing wrong with this deal. It's paying for his future potential as much as it is current play (which most believe his upside is quite high)

Herecy! No way he's worth that!!! Kidding, and I agree with your point. He's a young talented goalie who was going to get money somewhere. And nobody knows how the deal will turn out in _ years. Could eventually be a very good deal if he continues to develop and the cap goes up.
