    QB's of the decades

    Came up in another thread so it deserved it's own.

    Which decades QB's would do the best ing the modern era? And explain why you picked a certain era.

    Modern (last 5 yearsish): Stafford, Wilson, Kaepernick, Luck, Flacco, Tannehill

    2000's: Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, Phillip Rivers, Steve McNair, Donovan McNabb, Drew Brees

    90's: Steve Young, Brett Farve, Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham

    80's: Joe Montana, Dan Marino, John Elway, Dan Fouts, Phil Simms, Jim McMahon, Boomer Esiason

    70's: Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese, Fran Tarkenton, Ken Stabler

    60's: Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Len Dawson, Sonny Jurgenson, George Blanda

    50's: Otto Graham, Norm Von Brocklen, Y.A. Tittle, Bobby Layne

    If you have any other greats to add to a decade put it out there, but be realistic. For fun, name the one player that would bee the single season yards, TD, Completion %, QB rating if they played in the modern era.

    I'll still go with;

    80's: Joe Montana, Dan Marino, John Elway, Dan Fouts, Phil Simms, Jim McMahon, Boomer Esiason

    Montana and Marino put it over the top for me... although I'll miss Otto & Unitas

    I might be a little partial, but I'd go 80s as well.

    Just curious, why did you put Kelly with the 90s fellows?

    nm, I think I see what you're doing.

    You're talking to me all wrong... It's the wrong tone. You do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron. Hey, tell me, does your mother sew? BOOM. Get her to sew that!

    I can't believe I'm saying what I'm about to but here it is:

    I was actually very interested in hearing your response. Since you seem to be one of those "football experts" that know a lot about each era. I was kinda fully expecting you to break down each era and say why they were so great, coming to the conclusion that they all are great.

    So I really hope you participate in this one.

    I plan on getting involved, but would like to see what others think about it who probably didn't see most of those guys play. I wanna see the perception, what they came up with by reading, listening.

    I will say this, the differences in defenses back when vs today is huge. Otto Graham didn't deal with 4.3 cornerbacks,

    I can respect that.

    I will say though that Otto Graham had to deal with DB's that tackled WR's at the get go. They can't do that today.

    My vote is the 80's QB's.

    Fouts, Marino, Simms, Boomer were all parts of prolific passing offenses and put up big numbers when DB's were still allowed to mug WR's and TE's and Pass catching RB's weren't that big of a thing. Then you add in McMahon and Elway, who though not part of prolific passing offenses would see an increase just but the lack of running games. And then Montana.

    Never saw him play but this always blew my mind;

    Paul Brown – Otto Graham 10yrs together and went to the Championship EVERY year winning 7. 105-17-4 record in that decade!

    just wow...

    I would go with the 80's, then the 90's, 70's, 60's.

    That's tough. I've changed my mind numerous times and I still don't feel confident.

    My grandfather had the fortune of playing Otto in college. Called him a freak of nature, that is was unnatural that he was 6'1" 197 at the time. And fast too.

    One QB that he said was a pain in the *** to tackle.
