    Injury Updates
    * No Datsyuk or Zetterberg, won't even travel to Philly
    * Jimmy Howard will return and Mrazek is sent down
    * Joakim Andersson is speculated to return

Wow. Guessing Andersson in for Cleary considering Cleary was going to be scratched last game? If the offense can play like they did last game and Howard can play like he was before the most recent injury I like our chances. Both are kind of inconsistent though.

Franzen plays better in the middle. I'm curious where ANdersson goes. Glendening to the wing perhaps? Honestly, I wouldn't be against Glendening-Helm-Alfredsson, though that leaves a slow fourth line for the most part. Eaves could get the bump up.

Franzen back on IR. Howard not playing. Andersson taking Franzen's spot on top line.

Jesus ****ing Christ. Haven't we lost enough guys to injury already? Get one back lose 1 and then lose the guy you just got back.

I find the players hurt funny. You have Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Jimmy Howard, Johan Franzen, and Stephen Weiss. How are stars or potential stars are the ones always getting injured is beyond me. How is Kronny not injured?

I wanted to say it had to do with age but Kronny is near the same age and isn't constantly hurt. Maybe the wear and tear of all the play off series are getting to Pavs and Z? Then again with Z back problems don't just go away. Guess it could be lingering issues that'll never stop.

Well the good news is we have Helm and Alfredsson back. If the kid line can play like it did last game we still have a decent offense. Gustavsson cannot suck this game though.

Here are tonight’s lines and defense pairs for the Red Wings:

    Gustav Nyquist-Joakim Andersson-Justin Abdelkader

    Tomas Tatar-Riley Sheahan-Tomas Jurco

    Daniel Cleary-Darren Helm-Daniel Alfredsson

    Drew Miller-Luke Glendening-Patrick Eaves

    Niklas Kronwall-Jonathan Ericsson

    Kyle Quincey-Danny DeKeyser

    Brian Lashoff-Brendan Smith

    Jonas Gustavsson (starting)

Dang, are there any players left in Grand Rapids? The only upside to these injuries are the Wings are managing to get their rookies some quality playing time, which will result in an additional depth. I'm not sure what will happen roster and cap wise when everyone gets healthy.

Age is a part of things.

Henrik Zetterberg's contract scared the **** out of me when he first signed it after the 08/09 season. Back injuries don't go away, and get worse as time goes on. His style is being strong on the puck and using the boards (obviously he's scared of middle ice).

Pavel Datsyuk is 35 years old and has been in the league for over ten years. He's injury prone. It is what it is. I'm sure all of us were hoping for the same of every year pretty much, which is 6-10 games. It's looking like this will be a consistent thing for his next three years in Detroit.

Johan Franzen plays a reckless style when he moves. I think he's torn his ACL twice, sprained his MCL, and has had two concussions. He's a guy that's good for about 65 games, as with Daniel Alfredsson around that time.

Stephen Weiss has battled injuries (including this one) for three straight seasons. Serious injuries for the most part. Sports hernia isn't too bad but it will keep you out for a bit and it takes a long time to get the strength back that you had. He had surgery around his stomache/groin area, which yes, does take a lot of time. I don't remember correctly but I think it's six months before you can start lifting heavy weights.

That's our five top forwards on paper.

    35
    33
    30 (31 shortly)
    33
    41

Those are the ages, not the jersey numbers.

Right now we need to start pushing Gustav Nyquist, Darren Helm Riley Sheahan, Tomas Tatar, Justin Abdelkader, and Tomas Jurco into bigger roles. These guys are likely to see top six action this year with the injuries, and next year. They're the kids.

Niklas Kronwall really only had one injury season, which was a torn ACL. He's been great since. Was great after the McLeod hit (not great..) but was forced out for a week. He's not a worrisome. Jonathan Ericsson plays a rough style too, and I htink he's almost or is 30. Danny DeKeyser's injury was inexperience. His style should hold up.

Injuries are a problem and will continue to be a problem. Jimmy Howard also gets injured once every four starts or so. This is a big reason why Petr Mrazek is going to take the job sooner or later.

    Problems.

Daniel Alfredsson and Darren Helm haven't looked great since returning.
Kid line is up against a big powerful team, and it's a dirty team. Inconsistent play will happen.
Jonas Gustavsson has looked like crap since returning as well.

Agreed but what can we do? Alfredsson was in only his second game back from a decently long time out, rust was bound to happen. Helm also might be taking it easy a little bit with the amount of injuries he's had.

Nothing we can do. Helm had Bert and Cleary on his wings. Watching the game live against Chicago I could even tell that line was in trouble. Bert and Cleary couldn't do much to stop the wings (matched agianst Kane). Helm was put in a good position the past two games, and the match-ups have not gone his way as his line has been the odd-man out with Glendening proving to be a great defensive lockdown specialist.

Just gotta keep patience I guess. Neither are looking great, and Cleary obviously isn't working nor is he really capable right now. I honestly would have mixed up the lines.

I love the chances we are getting its just annoying that they are capitalizing on any of them. Although they did say Mason had trouble with rebounds last game so here's hoping he coughs up a chance or 2 and we score on them.
