Kirby Wilson hired as Vikings RB coach

Kirby Wilson to leave Steelers staff to join Vikings
    January 25, 2014 3:03 PM

Kirby Wilson will leave the Steelers and expected to become the running backs coach on Mike Zimmerís new Minnesota Vikings staff after the Super Bowl.

Wilson learned earlier today that he would not be hired to become the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator after he had his second interview with John Harbaugh Friday afternoon.

Wilson was under contract with the Steelers for one more year but they granted his request to leave. He will succeed James Saxon, who was not retained by Zimmer after three seasons coaching the Minnesota running backs.

Wilson once was in line to become offensive coordinator with the Steelers, but he was severely burned in a kitchen fire early in 2012 and was unable to take fill that job when Bruce Ariansí contract was not renewed weeks later. Wilson gradually returned to coaching that year and resumed his duties as running backs coach in 2012.

Mike Tomlin hired Todd Haley as his offensive coordinator to succeed Arians. Wilson has been the Steelers running backs coach since Tomlin became their head coach in 2007.

This week, Tomlin hired former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak to coach the Steelers offensive line. Jack Bicknell Jr. was fired after one year in that job.

Don't recall ever hearing of him before so I'll take your word for it. Sounds like we're putting together an all-star cast of coaches. Now if we could only do that with the players.

Love this hire, if Norv decides to leave town we got a replacement. For some reason I can see Norv getting another HC gig...even if he doesn't deserve it.

Our coaching staff is stacked,,,,They are all guys that have worked the level above their position or are regarded to be quickly moving up past their current position soon... Great hires....I love that we have an OC that was a HC before,,and a RB coach that was two seconds away from being a OC,,,and the rest of your hires are the same,,,,give this team 2 years max and we are going look solid...

The only part that sucks bout having all these awesome coaches is we might get picked over like the Bengals did, the next off season.

gotta look at that as a positive....'cause that doesn't happen if they don't first have success with us...plus if they've had that success, the coaches a step below them should have learned some things, too
    gotta love 'referential' treatment
