Does Ike get released if he has a terrible spring?

I get they didn't want to sell low on Ike or let him walk for nothing but Ike seems to be the main reason why Duda is getting consideration to play LF in the spring.

It obvious Duda is more comfortable at 1st base and is more productive there than Ike is for his career (in terms of advanced stats) but what do you think eventually happens? Does Ike get first crack at 1st base regardless of his spring? Or does he get released outright if Duda outplays him in ST?

Scrolling down to Duda's career numbers at 1st compared to Ike (.355 career wOBA, 129 wRC+ for Duda, .335 wOBA, 115 wRC+ for Ike)

I get the impression they are going to give Ike a chance in the immediate stages of the regular season but just wanted to know your guys opinions.

Highly doubtful. Cutting him is worse than trading him for the crap they were offered.

I'll say no. But if he gets off to another horrible start, he'll be DFA'd.

Question: if they DFA him, don't you think another club (one that was interested in trading him for the "crap" they wanted to give us in return) claim him off waivers? I suppose they could DFA him and if someone claims him, pull him back. But that means he has to stay on the ML roster - I understand he has no more options remaining.

I think they give him a shot in spring training. If he doesn't win the 1b job outright, then he has to be traded for whatever "crap" we can get in return. I don't think Ike would make a good bench player.

You can DFA a player and make a trade. That's what happened with McHugh/EYJ.

Ike will be given the 1B job no matter what happens in ST imo. If he sucks early on, he'll be gone and Duda will replace him.

Yep, I agree. And Duda will not be a regular in the OF even if he has a monster spring. In fact I think since he has an option remaining, he might just end up in LV regardless of what he does in the spring. If Davis fails, he'll be gone and perhaps Duda brought up in his place. Perhaps someone else. We have some other 1b options down there now to take a look at also.

Best case for Duda is he makes the team as a lefty pinch hitter and sometime 1bman despite what Alderson says about Duda playing the OF. CY, Grandy, Lagares and EY Jr. will be patrolling the OF - no room for Duda. I'm hoping den Dekker makes the team instead of Duda - he's a good fielder and had a good spring last year with the bat.

Sounds about right. If he's hitting under .200 again, cut bait.

FWIW, Ike had a torrid August before getting injured. .290/.468/.990 with a 25.5% BB rate and 3 HR in 25 games.

He'll stick with the club unless he flunks miserably in ST.
