I like him. Basically gives me the impression they expect to compete for a playoff spot the next 4 seasons. I don't think they will this year, but with health and the other 4 in the rotation having a good year, anything can happen.

Have to think with this move Melvin isn't finished, and somebody(s) may be getting dealt for a legitimate 1B. I'd hope they're aiming a bit higher than Ike if they do though.

I really like it, didn't think we would have the money for anything big. 4/52 isn a deal, I was thinking he'd get like 5 years 70 million. Garza, Lohse, Yo is a formidable top of the rotation and we still have Thornberg, Nelson, and Estarda who showed a lot at the end of the year. The lineup should be much improved with Braun back and Aram healthy. If Gennett and Davis can do what they did over a full year and we find a successful platoon at 1st this team is looking really good.

I forgot about Peralta, Garza,Lohse,Yo, Willy, and Thornberg. Maybe get a prospect or good bullpen arm for Estrada.

The rotation sets up pretty nicely.

    I think the locks are:
    YoGa
    Lohse
    Garza
    Peralta

Plus one of Thornburg, Estrada, Nelson, Hellweg, Will Smith (from the Aoki trade) and the Korean guy (I think) from the rule 5 draft. They've got a couple other guys that have started and could start again too so the rotation is awfully deep. Basically could go out with 2 rotations. I wasn't expecting a starting pitcher move, but it's starting to look like a pitching prospect will be moved for corner infield help. In all honesty though I'd cut ties with Gallardo. Peralta can do exactly (or better) than what Gallardo has done. Gallardo has an option for next year so they'll essentially have to give a raise to a guy that really hasn't improved to me over the last couple years. The money being spent on him can be used in a better spot considering how deep the rotation is. Love the amount of competition thats there.

Estrada has been good in the pen and the rotation. I think he deserves the rotation spot since they're gonna limit innings of the younger pitchers. If he falters, Thorunburg is the guy. Will Smith has closed in the minors so I'd look at putting him there, just don't Joba Chamberlain the guy.

I would imagine Garza would be the ace of the staff, maybe Lohse?

I'm cool with it. Hard to fault a team for trying to improve.

    No draft pick is big.

    Garza
    Lohse
    Yo
    Wily
    Estrada

Isn't that bad. No ace though. I think they pretty much have to find a first basemen.

If the deal goes through I think it's a really good situation. It gives out young guys some more time to progress since we have more flexibility as to who were gonna put on the mound. We could maybe even go with a six man rotation.

Finally signed him. 4/50 with a chance to be 5/67. I would still say it's a deal in our favor.

I really like this signing. If we can add another bat at 1st this can be a really solid team.

Contract details. I can see why it took them awhile to iron out the finer points.
