    Lannan's deal is incentive-based

Long Island native John Lannan will earn $1.5 million in 2014 if he makes the Mets' major league roster, according to Joel Sherman. The 29-year-old lefty could earn another $2 million in innings pitched and games started incentives, and he'll be able to opt out of the deal on June 14 if he is not on the Mets' major league roster.

I hope that's the case. I want Mejia to win that 5th spot.

    The signing can't hurt.

He gives us depth and a potential lefty/long arm in the pen.

And since he is signed to a minor league deal, he can always just fill in the AAA rotation.

Its important to have depth and a guy like Lannan isn't stealing anyone's spot outright.

Mejia might win the 5th spot, but he will be on an innings limit.
