Just when you thought the team couldn't get any older. Amaro is deadman walking.

Harry, I grew up with the phillies and learned the game by your voice. You will always be missed but never forgotten. Though you are no longer with us, you'll never be "outta here" in our hearts!

There's nothing wrong with looking at Abreu in spring training. Could be a decent left-handed pinch hitter/back up to Howard.

There's doesn't seem to be a place for him on the roster unless he really mashes.

It's a minor league deal, I'm always on board for minor league deal signings. If it doesn't work out you can just cut ties with him, if it does work out you have a nice left handed bat off the bench.

    Thumbs up

    first reaction is wtf?!
But maybe he could be a bat off the bench, better than some of the slop we've had in recent years.
    Here's some info:
He has been tearing the cover off the ball during the winter ball postseason in his native Venezuela, hitting eight home runs and driving in 26 runs in only 15 games.

Prorate that out and you have 80 HRs & 260 RBIs
Maybe there's special vitamins down there in South America?

Do the Phillies Baseball Organization really think that their fans are galatically stupid?!!! Bobby Abreu. Really? Seriously? What is RAJ trying to sell us here? A bill of goods! That's exactly what they are doing to the truly loyal Philadelphia Phillies fans. If the NL had the Designated Hitter, I would probably say, okay. Abreu could do that. But, no. He's not going to make this team! What a waste of time!!! I know Nelson Cruz was caught using PED's, but he is still a decent hitter who is younger that Abreu. RAJ should just fess up and say that 2014 is a lost season, period!

BTW, David Montgomery should call Mike Arbuckle and BEG him to return to the Phillies!!!

Because the difference between Nelson Cruz and Bobby Abreu would make the phillies a good team

Seems like both the Phillies and Flyers are BOTH stuck in a time warp...
Toooooo much loyalty and sentimentality. Signing veterans is fine, if only they both would sign the RIGHT ones!

I do hope the Phillies will consider participating in the dollar days of the offseason. There will be a couple decent players signed cheaply a few weeks from now. They don't have much room in the budget at this point, but that can be solved later.

Very excited for this move, even if it turns out Abreu is done(which most think) a fun trip down memory lane is okay with me. I have to wonder if Larry Bowa went to management for Abreu.
