IGT: Carolina Hurricanes at Philadelphia Flyers

    Time: 6:00pm
    Place: Wells Fargo Center

    Game Notes:

    - Hurricanes are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.
    - Hurricanes coming off of a 5-3 loss to TB in which they took 51 shots on goal.
    - Eric Staal leads the Hurricanes in scoring with 39 points.
    - Flyers are coming off of a 4-3 SO loss to the Islanders in which they squandered a 3-1 lead due to a horrific 3rd period effort.
    - Wayne Simmonds will look to continue his hot play; he is tied for the most points in the NHL over the past month.
    - Flyers have dropped both previous meetings this season to the Hurricanes by a score of 2-1.
    - Flyers are one of only 6 teams to have 5 or more players with 13+ goals; rather impressive stat given how putrid the offense was to start the season.

there's a chance this game could be postponed due to the weather, but as of now it is planned to go on as scheduled.

Looks like Voracek is still a game-time decision. I guess, in a way, that's a good thing. That means he's been evaluated and everything must have checked back ok. It must be one of those "it can't get any worse if he plays" type situations, just depends on how it affects his performance.

    Update on Voracek:

From what I've read it was a bruised hand. What prevented him from playing was the swelling inside of his glove, which I'm assuming hurt like hell and prevented him from gripping his stick properly. Looks like it was one of those situations where it just affected his performance too much for him to play. I was wondering why he came out of the locker room and back to the bench for a short time. He is still considered a game-time decision, though.

That's a relief. My guess is the extra day was good for him and he's in the lineup tonight. But that's just a guess.

Jakub Voracek will play tonight vs. Carolina. Extra day off helped his ailing hand

Good news. Great news, actually. Losing Voracek would be a tough road to travel, especially with the schedule the Flyers having coming up here over the next week and a half.

    tazer from Semin

anyone else getting sick of this not scoring first trend ... this is like 7/10 games we haven't scored first and took the first penalty

I'd say "yes" but for whatever reason this team plays better when behind.....so.....it's almost a "no".

Hell of a shot from Semin there.

    Flyers need to start skating.

So playing down a goal in the first is actually not killer for you guys?

I'm asking because I have the Flyers winning tonight.. No baiting here.

Team has won a franchise record 9 times (all since November 8th) when trailing in the 3rd period. Conversely, they seem to lose every time they enter the 3rd period with the lead (case in point, Monday, leading 3-1 over the Isles). So yeah, it might even be a strange boon for you.
