Tomorrow will be the 42nd game of the season against Chicago. We're obviously reeling after two straight victories, but the news got even worse this evening when Boston managed a last-minute tank to Orlando. We will never catch Orlando in the tank sweepstakes, so their win means nothing, but Boston's loss means the are suddenly tied with Utah for the 5th worst record, while we've rocketed up to the 10th worst record in only two games. If Boston trades Rondo as they are almost certain to do before the deadline, Boston may join the ranks of teams that we can never catch -- along with Milwaukee and Orlando.
Although our last two victories came on the road, it's worth remembering that they came against eastern conference teams who are playing in a terrible conference. Hopefully when we have to face more teams from the west we'll get back to our losing ways both away and at home.
If we can't trade Pau and we continue to get healthy the only viable option is to move any assets we can for cap relief/picks and players to be cut as soon as possible, while giving our young players as much run as possible so we can resign them and benefit from their low salaries in the next few years. Other than that, I think we're pretty much screwed and unlikely to get either a top draft pick or a playoff spot, meaning our only hope going forward is free agency and the fact that we don't have many players under current contract.
Damn. Just when things were looking up....
