    Tank Standings!

Tomorrow will be the 42nd game of the season against Chicago. We're obviously reeling after two straight victories, but the news got even worse this evening when Boston managed a last-minute tank to Orlando. We will never catch Orlando in the tank sweepstakes, so their win means nothing, but Boston's loss means the are suddenly tied with Utah for the 5th worst record, while we've rocketed up to the 10th worst record in only two games. If Boston trades Rondo as they are almost certain to do before the deadline, Boston may join the ranks of teams that we can never catch -- along with Milwaukee and Orlando.

Although our last two victories came on the road, it's worth remembering that they came against eastern conference teams who are playing in a terrible conference. Hopefully when we have to face more teams from the west we'll get back to our losing ways both away and at home.

If we can't trade Pau and we continue to get healthy the only viable option is to move any assets we can for cap relief/picks and players to be cut as soon as possible, while giving our young players as much run as possible so we can resign them and benefit from their low salaries in the next few years. Other than that, I think we're pretty much screwed and unlikely to get either a top draft pick or a playoff spot, meaning our only hope going forward is free agency and the fact that we don't have many players under current contract.

Damn. Just when things were looking up....

This is funny. Lakers fans talking about tanking. I know hope is gone for this season but I still hate to see the Lakers lose. I would rather talk about the Lakers going 57-25 at this point.

Here is a little overview of the lottery winners from the past 10 years (complete with ranking and record):

    2013 - 3rd (24-58)
    2012 - 4th (21-54)
    2011 - 8th (32-50)
    2010 - 5th (26-56)
    2009 - 3rd (19-63)
    2008 - 9th (33-49)
    2007 - 7th (32-50)
    2006 - 5th (27-55)
    2005 - 6th (30-52)
    2004 - 1st (21-61)

    2005 - 6th (30-52)
    2004 - 1st (21-61)

    Here is some more breakdown:

Since 2012 was a lockout year I have adjusted the record to reflect an 82 game season at 23-59. With these numbers we get an average record of about 27-55 (26.7 - 55.3 if you want to be more exact) and an average lottery position of 5th worst record

As you can see from my quoted post the worst record has only won the lottery 1 time over this period and that was 10 years ago when Orlando picked Dwight Howard (However, Cleveland also had the worst record and won the year before that) . The 2nd worst team hasn't won the lottery since 1996 when PHI drafted Iverson. The 3rd worst team has won the lottery 6 times going back to 1997.
I believe you are looking for this.

Wonder if Marshall and Young have some kind of beef with eachother . After the game Marshall said he questions Nick shot selection "90% of the time".

Lockeroom drama is always good for tanking, doesn't hurt anyway.

I feel you but at this point what's more beneficial?

You guys should email Mitch to let him follow your tanking plan. He has never admitted tanking .Just wonder whether he does it secretly

Two positives to keep in mind. First, Ryan Kelly was the 48th pick in the draft last year, and he seems to be doing okay. So despite everyone's conviction that the FO is incapable of making any good decisions it seems that they made at least one.

Also, we seem to be pretty good at finding useful players from recent drafts that other teams have cast off. Given how dysfunctional many of the league's teams are, it wouldn't surprise me if the Lakers continue to profit from post-draft pickups going forward. There are so many kids coming out early with no reliable game that only a team that can afford to bring them along slowly will see a profit from signing them. A lot of teams are either in win-now mode or panic mode or both, so if a kid can't put up big numbers right away he's gone.

Everybody should read this piece about Embiid. I know we have no chance of landing him, but I hope he ends up going to a good team whether he enters the draft this year or next. Seems like an awesome kid, and somebody with the smarts to not only learn the game but take care of himself for the long haul. (Bill Self playing Great White Hunter is enough to make you hurl, but then that's why I hate college basketball.)

Looks like our next game is against Miami on Thursday. Chalk that one up as a loss. The new streak begins.

I can't we trot out that lineup and we still only have the 10th worst record in the league. We have lost 6 of our best player for at least one month and there are still 9 teams worse? That's embarrassing!

Very good read. Nice find !

The only thing I did not like: He is naive.

    Could be a bad thing
