    Kershaw Deal Will Impact US

Does anyone see the Wilpons eventually spending this kind of money on Harvey? Click

Might not be financially prudent at the time to do so to be honest. He'll be 29 years old when he is a FA in 2019 whereas the Dodgers locked up Kershaw at 25 years old. They'll get more of his prime years and that's why they did it. Same with the Mariners and locking up Felix at 26 years old.

To be honest it depends on how our other pitchers develop, what Harvey is doing at that time, and where the FA market is.

I wouldn't automatically pull the trigger on a 8-9 year deal though even as great as he is.

I agree with this, let alone the fact that Harvey has yet top pitch an entire year in the majors and just had major arm surgery.

Let's actually see how Harvey comes back after TJ surgery in 2014 before we start worrying about his $500 million contract in 2019.

This team is doomed. The Coupons and Spindy are already working to make Harvey look bad so they can get out of paying him.

First Harvey has to put up similar numbers over 4 or 5 years.
"The 90 wins is about challenge. It's about changing the conversation. It's about framing questions for ourselves as to how we get there. So I stand by the notion that we need to get better, and in doing so we need to set concrete goals for ourselves so that we have sort of specific conversations among ourselves about how we're going to get there." -- Mr. Alderson

I wish Harvey had TJ in like 2018 or something to drive his price down. We just lost an extremely valuable pre-arb year.

I wanted to give him an extension now, ie 20m for next year

that would have been some sideways stuff. Obviously it woulda looked like it blew up in our face. We'd probably also get a 20M off a long term deal coupon through insurance. Would have been interesting.

This doesn't really move the needle at all.

Felix & Verlander just signed for 7/180. Kershaw was supposed to get a little more for being 25 and as good or better than the other two.

Harvey will be what 28 or 29? Maybe similar to Kershaw because of inflation, assuming Harvey remains on a high level.

But overall, I don't think Kershaw raised the bar above where Verlander/Felix set it earlier.

Mets stand a better chance of being contenders in 2018 than 2014 so...

If he's a chemist living in Colorado...maybe he does. Otherwise I trust he is still a law-abiding citizen.
