I need to vent right now. Blount and Martin is a LEGIT 1-2. He would of been huge when Doug went down. The guy breaks more tackles then any RB I've ever seen. If we don't draft a QB in this draft of Evans/Watkins I'm going to be fed up. We need PLAYMAKERS!!! not a QB that doesn't make mistakes and a slot WR that doesn't even belong in the NFL.
I was angry day one when we traded Blount. Ya I'm glad we got marten but we always used other backs to give him breaks. It should have been Blount splitting carries. Our depth on most of our skill positions is thin because of Schiano. I will give him credit for some good things but he definitely gutted the team...
We had 3 different RB's run for over 140 yards this season...... We are fine at the RB postion, Blount had a awesome game for sure but to think we are nuts for letting him go is kinda dumb and Demps still hasnt got a chance to really show what he can do. As for Talib he wore out his welcome here regardless of his talent good on him for turning his career around it looks like and stopping all the off the field garbage.
Aquib and Blount ended up with the correct team and the correct coach. Bill works wonders with troubled players. No since crying over something that we can do nothing about. We can't change the past and Schiano and Dominik paid for their mistakes by being fired so it all worked out for us.
Let's look to the future and our team and NEW coaching staff
Blount meh, Talib you can mostly understand (yeah his HC's sucked once Gruden was fired, but if you can't get your **** straight playing next to Ronde Barber for so many years...), but Bennett hurt. Such a great fit at such a crucial, shallow position, really sucks to let that kind of player go.
I'm not upset about Blount because we used that 7th RD pick to get Mike James who looks really good. He seems more complete than Blount IMO. It's a shame he got hurt after Martin went down.
I didn't like the Talib trade. He was our best CB and we gave him away for chump change. Imagine Talib and Revis playing across from each other.
So true. But we could have had the 1-2 punch of Doug and Blount. Doug and James are very very similar. Blount has that power running game mixed with a home run threat. Glad our guys are doing well on other teams however. Maybe we can bring Bennett back after this year if he wins a SB.
He had one monster game, big deal, it's good that he is gone. James has much more potential then Blount does. Tedford would probably have no use for him anyways, his college backs are all multi-dimensional players, Blount is 1-dimensional and inconsistent with fumble issues.
I have been silent on this topic thus far. A lot of people are making a big deal about it. I think it is time I rang in…. Simply put the Blount trade was the right call then and still is and here is why. A) Doug Martine is a better overall back. Blount does not pass catch, he does not blitz pick up and he is a fumbler, Martine has none of those problems. B) Blount had a bad attitude, he came late to practice routinely, and worse he had legal problems prior to being a pro and after having joined the Bucs organization.
Now I know critics will yell but we could have had both.... First (1) off, if Doug is getting 15-20 touches a game how many will there really be for Blount? Secondly (2nd) MONST IMPORTANTLY BLOUNT HAD A BAD ATTITUDE. He legit did not give a rats @ZZ about the team it was evident in his conduct as soon as we drafted Doug. (3rd) The entire false argument of “Blount provided depth” at RB is utter trash. The Bucs are SOOOO deep at RB we had to cut a former 1,000 yard player in Payten Hillis. We have Leonard, James and Rainey all setting the bench behind a potential 2000 yard from scrimmage all-purpose RB!!!
Bottom line, the Pats are known to take chances on dangerous edge/risk players. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not. A lot of ISH gets brushed under the rug when your winning 10-12 games a year. This why they drafted Hernandez, everyone knew he had red flags. It’s also why they took Talib. When you have Tom Brady calling signals and winning games you can gloss over a lot of other things. If Talib and Blount are thriving there good for them but had either stayed in Tampa, it would not have ended so well for either.
P.S. You may not agree with the above but mark my words. If either Blount or Talib misstep in NE watch and see what happens. The reason we let go of them was they are on their last legs for the whole league. Both players are towing the line because if they don’t, their next jobs will be at Staples. It was time for both to leave Tampa…..
I miss Blount. I have his jersey. I remember his first real game against the steelers was freaking awesome. I was like finally a Bucs running back that fights for extra yardage! That being said it is what it is. Blount needed a change of scenery as well as Aqib. As much as I feel bitter about them not being with us. I think it was the better move for both parties.
I'm excited about James and Demps coming back! Martin, James, Demps, and Rainey. That's a really freaking exciting squad right there. Leonard can hit the road for all I care lol.
THe issue with those guys was they were never coached. Raheem Morris wasnt going to turn those guys into professionals, they were listening to rap during practice. And then we bring in Schiano who was all my way or the highway and ran NFL players out of TB. That mentality can work in college because guys are a dime a dozen and you can find whoever to fill their role. The NFL is the utmost elite of football athletes in the world and we’re just going to cut/trade them. I’m very glad we at least traded most of them. If we still had those guys and a professional/well respected coach in Lovie I dont think we even have this discussion. Are we a better team without those guys?? Maybe, depends on how Banks and James turn out but it does look promising. Just saying that they didnt even attempt to coach those guys.
