Dodgers will counter our Dontrelle Willis pickup by signing Masahiro Tanaka

Yes, the Giants do have Dontrelle Willis (again) but this isn't even the biggest news of the day....

SAN FRANCISCO -- Itís been a decade since Dontrelle Willis was a rookie sensation and two years since heís thrown a pitch in the big leagues.

But the Giants will give him one more shot at a comeback.

Iíve confirmed that Willis and the Giants reached agreement on a minor league contract on Friday, as it was first reported by John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. This is actually Willisí second stint with the Giants; he signed a minor league contract with them in July, 2010, and made five relief appearances for Triple-A Fresno before being granted his release a few months later.

The Giants believe Willis could be useful as a starter or in relief, but he wonít be a candidate to make the big league club. In fact, Willis probably wonít receive an invitation to major league camp this spring, instead reporting and working out on the minor league side as he attempts to restart his career and find a delivery he can repeat.

    But there's a bit more:

The #Dodgers have let it be known they plan to go all-out in their efforts to sign Tanaka, saying they and certainly won't be out-bid.

Just a guess, Tanaka will be a little bit better than Willis in 2014.

In regards to the Bob Nightengale tweet, there is also this.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/la/d...4&vkey=news_la

In an ESPN Radio interview Thursday, president Stan Kasten said he wouldn't predict it, wouldn't hang my hat on [signing Tanaka]," consistent with his Winter Meetings comment that "it wouldn't surprise me if we went the winter without a huge move."
    and from the same article.
In addition, the club has invested heavily in pitching in recent Drafts, and the signing of Tanaka would impede management's stated goal of developing more players internally. Young starters closest to the Major Leagues, based on their participation in this week's Player Development Camp, are Zack Lee, Ross Stripling, Matt Magill and Chris Reed.

So the dodgers are both uninterested and in love with Tanaka, will both not be out spent and not going to give him the biggest offer, and both hate and despise the giants.

When looking for a power bat I think it is best to ignore lack of power
