    2014 offseason

Ill start off by saying that I think we are a few good key moves from being elite.

Id say that I think it starts with Lewis, but we all know Mike Brown is too cheap to go out an get somebody else who wont give us a discount.

Offensively: I think we need to address our offensive line to start. We fixed our run game, we have a few guys who I think can compete for the 2nd WR spot. Dalton needs to improve in more ways than one. A good offensive line will make improving A LOT easier. It'll give him more time and that alone will cut down on the picks. An offensive line is stopping us from being SB contenders.

Defensively: Assuming that we're gonna be able to get back to one of the best Ds in the league when were healthy, I think as long as we get our guys back we should be okay talent wise. But, Micheal Johnson will make or break that theory. And I pray to god that Zimmer stays.

    Draft:
1st: I think this is the perfect spot to address the O-line situation. A fast, young guy that can keep up with our offense. Greg Robinson out of Auburn is exactly that. Would love that pick.

2nd: Maybe a safety? A ball hawking safety is what ive wanted on this team for a while now. Dion Bailey is my dream pick here. Fast, and can play the deep ball, something that seems to kill us, especially with teams in the division.

3rd: QB. We need to bring in some talent to challenge Andy, and make him really earn his job. Kevin Hogan out of Stanford is a guy who can do that. He's also young and has the potiental to take Daltons job, come a breakdown. He has a good arm and can run if needed. With the line we have now, that wouldn't be a bad option to have.

    Also a few side notes;

AJ Greens contract is up after the 2014 season. He will be a talked about topic. He said he is in no rush to get the deal done.

There is a chance that James Harrison will want to call it quits, that would be a small talent hole to fill but a huge locker room/ leader role to fill.

Here are our free agents this offseason. With a few personal opinions.

    Michael Johnson DE
Knowing that we signed Dunlap to a long term extension, Johnson is as good as gone. His contract will give us a good chunk of money to address another big hole.

    Anthony Collins LT
Would like to keep him, weather it be for depth or to start.

    Brandon Tate WR
Nothing really special. More of a return specialist than anything. We can find those anywhere.

    Taylor Mays S
I still think he has talent. He ws injured for half of the season. I'd give him one more year.

    Brandon Ghee CB
Didn't get much time this season. He hasn't done anything to keep his spot, but hasn't lost a roster spot, in my opinion.

    Vincent Rey OLB
Must re-sign. He finally got some time and played pretty well. Could be a monster along side Burfict.

    Mike Pollak G
Another must sign. Played in 8 games and didn't allow any sacks. Would be a damn good depth guy, if not a starter.

    Alex Smith TE
I think we can let him go. Two guys on top of him in the depth chart, and hes only a depth guy. Can find another one anywhere.

    Andrew Hawkins WR
Would be stupid not to re-sign him. Hes a weapon that not many teams have.

    Dane Sanzenbacher WR
I like the kid but our WR position has a lot of talent right now. It'll come down to if the FO thinks hes worth another season.

    Chris Crocker S
We can find somebody better. He makes tackles. Not really a playmaker. I expect plays to be made by my safties.

    Dennis Roland RT
Another guy that hasn't lost his spot, but hasn't earned it. He's a toss up.

    Zoltan Mesko P
Probably will be let go. He was only a replacement for Hubers injury.

This is kind of a rough draft offseason preview. Things will probably change if we cant get Johnson back. Ill keep updated.

I wouldn't mind the Bengals taking a safety first round. Our safety's can hit, but they can't cover too well. I think they were definitely the weak spot in our defense. Plus Taylor Mays got hurt last year, so someone else just in case.

I think either a defense or offensive lineman second round. Whoever's the best available between those positions.

I wouldn't want to waste a 3rd round pick on a QB. we're fine with the 2 we have. Maybe a decent defensive tackle. I saw how much the line declined without Atkins, so maybe a guy who can help fill in on their rotation could be a big advantage.

From the 4th round up, I would just take the best available players, regardless of position. (except for QB and WR)

I agree with you mostly on FA's though. I would like to see them sign a CB to add some depth. The reason I say sign one instead of draft one is because it seams like it takes a while to really develop them, and I'd rather have someone who can fill in now.

I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised. It'll depend on how much he wants. Its been forever since Brown has overpaid to keep somebody here. Theres no doubt that AJ is getting a huge contract. Were gonna have to overpay to keep him, because somebody will give him the money that he wants. If you ask me, its a toss up right now. If we go out and win it all next year, or Dalton improves and become an Elite QB, im sure AJ will wanna stay for less. Its hard to tell right now.

Well I think Marvin is a better 2WR slot then Sanu but do you think we can snag somebody who is better though for the number 2 slot. I think this thread should be more like "What do we want Bengal players to work during the offseason.

Andy Dalton: Field Vision that guy looks at his first option sometimes his second but if the first option is out he takes a long time to look at the other options.

Bernard: Just get faster and stronger, that rookie showed a lot of promise.

    Sanu: Just work on catching.

TE's I would say blocking for when we run. It's hard for us to get on the outside with gresham... Efiert we can towards that edge.

    Defense:

We need LB's that can do a decent.. not amazing but a decent job at handling Route running TE's. Every team we played that had a receiving type TE we go torched imo..

    Run DEF was awesome.

Corners... I think we should move Hall and draft another or Trade hall and a pick for another CB. Just not a fan of the guy we need some ball hawks out there. all our Corners are for Run Support except Newman and Jones. Anyways IDK

I updated a few things. Now that I think about it, I think I would be okay with letting Johnson go and giving Dunlap a chance. I'd like to see us address the safety spot with the money we save from not resigning him. Maybe Byrd? I'd love to see us make a run at Brian Orakpo too. He can help in the pass rush and help for the loss of Johnson, and he can help in coverage. Seems like he would be a leader in the locker room too, I know he has already established himself, but maybe a little time along side James Harrison would for sure help him learn a few things. Would really be a win win.

I think Kirkpatrick can replace Hall in a year or two. I'd say just let hall finish his career out here. He's injury prone. We probably wouldn't get much for him anyways. I agree on the run defense. Jarius Byrd is the guy I pray we snag. Hes a ball hawk and can make a lot of plays. If we can snag Byrd at safety or Brian Orakpo I would consider our offseason a success on that alone. Id poop if we got both.

I think I kinda jumped the gun on the draft. We've got some money to spend in free agency and there are some guys out there this year who can help us. I think our draft will depend on what we do in free agency. I stand behind my QB theory though. Dalton needs a fire lit under his *** and it doesn't seem like Lewis is willing to do it discipline wise. Maybe some motivation.

Do you guys think Zimmer would try and scoop up Johnson for the Vikes? Not sure what sort of relationship they had.

If a guy like Kony Ealy is there we have to grab him. He is special. So is Darqueze Dennard. Either pick would be great for us.

I think adding a guy with the name of Kony to a team already filled with convicts is a fantastic idea!

Looks like the Bengals plan on matching the Browns offer to Hawkins of $12.2 Mill. that seems like too much for a 4th WR, but whatever. I'm surprised. Mike Brown must really like him.

It looks like Mike Brown was too cheap to re-sign Michael Johnson.

They re-signed Tate but I wouldn't have been opposed to letting him walk. He's only about an average-slightly below average KR.

Brown better have something up his sleeve.. It looks like we're letting Hawkins walk. If the Browns didn't land Hawkins they were going after Edelman. I don't know if we're going after him or if we just didn't want Cleveland to land him. We let Collins walk. We let Johnson walk. We let Harrison walk. I get that we have a couple guys to re-sign but god damn. We could have filled multiple holes by now.

Yeah looks like the Browns upped it to a $13.6 million over 4 years, and $10.8 of that is in the first 2 years. I like Hawkins, but for a 4th WR, Bengals are making the right choice not to match that. Hawkins will be the real winner here, because of the Bengals, he's getting an extra $1.2 million.

I still think we're okay at WR. But we need to address the our secondary, our linebackers and we need to fill two starting spots on our O line. We can't do all of that in the draft. We should have been adding depth and making the next step to being legitimate contenders rather than releasing veteran starters. Hell Revis signed a one year deal for 12 million. I don't understand what Brown is doing.
