    |Trade| Liles + Prospect for Tim Gleason

    Chip Alexander
    ‏@ice_chip
Can confirm Canes will trade Gleason for Liles and a prospect. To be announced soon.

On the surface it's a good deal. Trading a surplus for a need. Gleason isn't Dion's partner but he'll be the kind of guy that Gardiner can play with on that 2nd unit, leaving Franson and Rielly to shine as the 3rd pair

It better be a mediocre prospect. No Percy, no Finn, no Granberg, no Verhaghea (however you spell it), no Gauthier and a couple others. If we trade any of our A or B prospects we lose this deal big time.

Chip Alexander is the canes beat writer.

Here is a video on the kind of player Gleason is:

He's not an offensive juggernaut anymore but he's a warrior that gives 110% and is very strong/physical

Prospect is Dennis Robertson. 6th rounder in '11. No big deal at all.

The spec is Dennis Robertson per Bobby Mac

Low-ceiling guy with a heavy shot, who plays with some edge. Currently playing in the NCAA. 6th rounder in 2011 for the Leafs

Gleason was never offensive. I just rifled through his stats and I think his peak season for points was either 19 or 21. He's just a stay at home D man with an edge.

That was tough to watch Liles leave the stadium. Just another kick in the nads to a good player and great person by this organization. I wish him the best in Carolina, i'm sure he'll be valued there.

Gleason has a higher cap hit than Liles for the same length of contract, so while we don't gain financial flexibility at least we get an upgrade.

Soo... no more Paul Ranger?? I'm a fan.

I'm glad we don't have a GM who worries about hurting players feelings. It's a big boys business. Pretty sure Nonis didn't wait till today to make the deal just to do that to Liles. Things fall in place when they fall in place. Atleast he'll get to play now. Best of luck but he didn't fit in. Hopefully Ranger takes his rightful place in the press box.

Hopefully this means the end of Ranger and Fraser.

I don't know what happened to Fraser. Maybe last year was an apparition, maybe that puck he took to the head changed him. It's possible.. but he's not been anything close to what he was last year. I guess everybody looks better when you win and everyone looks worse when things are tough.. but still.

I didn't see Liles leave though, I would've actually like to see how it would go down. I just got a notification on my phone from Bleacher Report's app. It does save the team from Liles' 5 year 14 mill deal, right?

Yeah his cap hit's off the books but Gleason's comes on the books. Gleason makes 500k or little more a year than Liles so we end up adding a bit of money but getting a physical element to add to our soft D core.

With the game itself today, the Phaneuf signing and Liles trade look for one action packed 24/7 on Sunday.
