Numbers don't lie. BTW, your list is dismissed without Fernandez on the list.

You made this thread just to gloat about Jose Fernandez lol. Not saying he isn't deserving but this is clearly the motive.

    Kershaw
    Harvey
    Hernandez
    Wainwright
    Verlander

    Jose Fernandez -
    2nd in ERA
    2nd in ERA-
    6th in FIP
    10th in xFIP
    12th in Sierra
    5th in K/9
    61st in BB/9
    43rd in GB%
    10th highest LOB%

But the numbers don't lie. All of those = a top 5 pitcher that only has pitched less than 180 innings in the majors.

Is this the top pitchers from last season? Fernandez was great last season but has also pitched less than 180 innings and has yet to repeat his success. If I'm making a top 5 list I am taking pitchers who have at least been able to repeat their success.

Pitchers like Lee and Felix were not even mentioned.

    Masahiro Tanaka

    11-1| 99.2 IP| 10.20 K/9| 1.44 BB/9| 0.90 HR/9| 1.99 ERA| 2.70 FIP| 2.32 xFIP| 2.9 fWAR

Before you put anyone in the top 5 he needs to have at least 2 great seasons and been mostly healthy for at least 3 straight, based on that here is my top 10:

    1- Clayton Kershaw
2- Justin Verlander (he'll bounce back)
    3- Cliff Lee
    4- Felix Hernandez
    5- Chris Sale
    6- Zack Greinke
    7- David Price
    8- Max Scherzer
    9- Anibal Sanchez
    10- Jordan Zimmerman

Those who fall just short are: Adam Wainwright, Johnny Cueto, Jered Weaver, Gio Gonzalez, Cole Hamels, C.J. Wilson, Doug Fister, Hiroki Kuroda, Matt Cain, and C.C. Sabathia.

I need to see 1 more great season off these pitchers: Yu Darvish, Hisashi Iwakuma, and Madison Bumgarner.

And 2 more great season off these pitchers: Matt Harvey, Josť Fernandez and Mike Minor.
    Carlos Beltran 2014 Stats:
    33 Games | .307 wOBA | .240 BABIP | 5 HRs | 14 Runs | 15 RBIs

I guess you have to say what the criteria is. I don't think it matters if you've only had 1 season of success like Fernandez. he wasn't just a flash in the pan, he had great minor league success too.

I look at it like the top 5 pitchers going forward.

Kershaw is a lock and should be on everyone's list.

does Harvey count if he's going to miss the 2014 season?

I think Fernandez deserves to be on the list.

Darvish and Scherzer had great numbers from this past season in ERA, WHIP, and K
