Post Rumor: Lakers not interested in re-signing Pau Gasol

Kevin Ding and his sources believe the Lakers will not sign Pau this off-season.

    Good move or bad move?

    This is not the end.

    Is this even a "rumor"?

I think most of us expected this. Especially if he won't take any type of pay cut. No way he gets 19+ mil from the Lakers with his bum legs (not just his knees)

it may be the start of the official "tanking" by the Lakers. and let's get a 1st fro cleveland so we can draft a big (embiid) on our pick and a pg on Cleveland's

    This is not the end.

It's time to say goodbye to Mr.Gasol, It is in the best interest of the team as well as Pau Gasol.

Not surprised at all by this. Pau was kinda ticked at the money Kobe got on his extension, and was looking to not take too big of a pay cut himself. Now the question is are they willing to let him walk for nothing or do they trade him early enough to avoid the repeater penalty. Hopefully Laker management is doing what is in the best interest of the Lakers.

Rumor: Lakers not interested in re-signing Pau Gasol

Trade Pau for 2015 expiring contracts and/or 2014 draft picks

If true why say this? It only hurts our leverage in potential trade if everybody thinks we're desperate to get rid of Pau.

So the Lakers aren't interested in bringing him back, but they're also not interested in trading him for anything less than a superstar? Pretty terrible fo we have

This is a good move in every way. Pau's run with the Lakers is done. We shouldn't resign him in any case, unless it's specifically to immediately send him somewhere else under that new deal. If he walks and we get nothing we're still ahead of the game, but announcing that we will let him walk ahead of next year actually puts more pressure on teams to deal for him NOW.

How? Because if you want Pau on your roster you're going to have to bid for him in the open market. If you do a deal for him now you can sign him when he arrives and lock him up for x years. Again, I think the FO is doing a good job of trying to get the most they can before the trade deadline, and because Pau's got plenty of basketball left in him I believe there will be multiple suitors.

(I know Laker Nation thinks Pau is terrible, but if you put him on the Heat, for example, they would be virtually unbeatable.)

Also, if he is traded now or by the deadline, the team that trades for him will now own his bird rights. Besides that expiring contract, they would then be able to match or exceed anything he would get on the open market. Win win for everyone concerned in the Pau sweepstakes. It is blatantly obvious that like Howard, Pau does not get along with D'Antoni. So, our coach essentially ran off two future Hall of Famers.
