Alex Ovechkin 6th Fastest in NHL history to 400 goals

Scored an empty netter on a 2 minute long shift for #400 tonight at Carolina.

The five players that reached 400 faster than Alex: Wayne Gretzky, Mike Bossy, Mario Lemieux, Brett Hull and Jari Kurri. #Caps

Even if you dislike the guy that's an impressive list. Next fastest after Ovechkin was Pavel Bure in one more game.

Meanwhile as I'm in a homerish mood:

That is four-assist game No. 9 for Nicklas Backstrom. No other player has more than five since he entered the League in 2007-08. #Caps

Pushing him atop the league in assists (33) and 3rd in points tied with Malkin (41). Ovechkin is 5th with (40).

He went through that stretch over a year ago where he just wasn't himself so it's nice to see the guy back at it. Imagine how much faster he would of gotten to 400 if he never went through that stretch. I'm not the biggest fan of the guy but there's no denying the league's a better league with him at the top of his game.

Glad to see this guy scoring with aplomb again. He's really fun to watch.

Quite an incredible achievement. He's on pace for over 60 this season too. Nice to see old OV production back again!

    Yeah he's pretty good
You need centerman that can play two ways and if they donít play two ways in the end, you canít win, because the guy you are counting on canít get himself on the right side of the puck enough. So sure he can score, he can score but his team loses every night, I didnít know that was the objective. I thought winning was the objective. So if you centers canít play down the middle, and canít play without the puck, you have no chance.

Getting points on assists for doing nothing is the measure of a great player? When they get rid of the 2 assists crap I will take points more seriously
