    Baltimore Has Signed Belfour

The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to terms with former Oakland Athletics closer Grant Balfour. In effect, the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics have swapped closers this off-season, as the Baltimore Orioles traded closer Jim Johnson to the Oakland Athletics for Jemile Weeks and a player to be named later. The deal is a 2 year deal worth $7M a year, with $500,000 deferred each season. In total, the contract is for $15M.

I like it, we get a closer for 2 years and a lower AAV and save money to be able to be more flexible. It's a lateral move really. We get Balfour and Ryan Webb (being compared to Jim Johnson due to his high ground ball tendencies) for the price of Johnson for one year, then 7.5 mill to Balfour for next year, which is reasonable. We didn't really improve however. If this doesn't lead to signing a legit pitcher or hitter, someone who would make north of 10 mill a year, this move means nothing.

If you haven;t figured it out by now, there is little to no forum activity in the O's section. So don;t hold your breath for replies. Haha.

I thought this was a very good signing, not sure why the O's would change their minds like that.
