3 biggest defensive needs for next season?

this is not an overreaction to the Vikings game either, this is a reaction to a defense whose continually been bend but don't break all season, and have finally broken this week

they've been riding a string of huge luck by not playing against Rodgers, playing Stafford in the snow, and playing mostly backup QBs throughout the winning streak

they are the defense that was shredded by peyton, rivers, and now matt Montana.

    I went with:

safety (1) - replace wolff who has been decent when healthy, but hasn't been healthy with an elite safety like byrd

nate allen maybe replaced, maybe not, most likely has been good enough to be re-signed though

Outside cornerbacks (2)- replace both, fletcher is too injury prone and hasn't been good since coming back from that injury and cary Williams gets abused way too easily

3 biggest needs are secondary, but to be fair the pass rush hasn't been great either

would like to see eagles draft a OLB to replace trent cole as hes been too inconsistent this year

edit: put lb, olb, and ilb all in same poll

    disregard lb I guess

Biggest need by FAR is OLB

second by a large margin is CB

third by another large margin is safety

we need a playmaker at OLB desperately, CB can be solved with either an outside guy or an inside guy and moving boykin outside (I think he will be ready next year)

safety would be huge to have a playmaker like byrd and put him next to a guy who is playing well but not making plays in Allen, but Allen and Wolff are viable starters and thats why its not a huge glaring need

not sure if boykin is big enough to be on the outside when matched up against the taller and physical WRs, hes the perfect slot CB IMO

would love to sign byrd as you said, re-sign nate allen, and also sign aquib talib at CB

    LCB- Talib
    RCB- Cary Williams/Fletcher
    Slot CB- Boykin

    FS- Byrd
SS- Nate and Wolff battle it out

use 1st to 5th round picks all on defense, need good depth too as we saw today when colt Anderson was out playing safety and whiffed on a tackle that led to a TD and changed the momentum of the game right back into the vikings's favor

not a big fan of signing brian orapko because hes way too inconsistent and wont come cheap

I think it is obvious what the 3 needs are. But not sure about order.

Not positive, but pretty sure they would have enough for both. I know they have a good bit of cap room.

OLB easily. Also we're not just gonna cut the whole secondary and eat all that money.

    Please release Williams and Chung.
To some, he was just a boy. A boy who played football, a football player that grew to be a man. A man that took over a city, a city that he made his own, a city that stands behind him in hopes of becoming one of that cities all-time greats. To some, 2013 was a fluke. To some, he can't do it again. To some, he got lucky.

To us though, to the Philly faithful, that QB is Nick Foles. To us, that's our QB.

    1. Vick's salary will be gone. The Eagles ALWAYS have salary cap room.
    2. Cornerback, cornerback, outside linebacker, safety - in that order.

Other cuttable options with little to no penalty to the eagles and their 2014 pay

    Cole - 5 mil
Avant - 2.25 mil and 1 mil roster bonus (fully expect him to be cut)
Fletcher - 2.9 mil (doubt hes cut)
Herremans - 3 mil (might still have some dead money, not sure)
    Peters - 9.65 mil
    Ryans - 6.8 mil
    Celek - 4 mil

Cary Williams is fully guaranteed next season for 4.75 mil
Chung is guaranteed for 1 mil of his 3.25 mil

I expect Cole and Avant to be cut

Thought Ryans would be but he has played well enough to keep around

I could see peters being cut if they find a younger/cheaper option at tackle and want to move Lane to LT

I could see Celek being cut if they strongly believe in Ertz
