Cards bring in Ellis as rookie 2B insurance for Kolten Wong
Dodgers elected not to bring Ellis back as rookie 2B insurance for Alexander Guerrero

    Yeah

I wanted Jeff Baker, but this is fine (as I don't know if Baker can still play second really at all).

Ellis is here for depth reasons, I'm surprised he would accept a role that doesn't promise him a ton of PA, as Wong will be given every chance to play full time.

But Ellis is a nice piece here.

Ellis was basically the best right handed hitting second basemen left on the market, and with several teams needing second basemen still, I'm surprised he would accept a role that doesn't give him a ton of PA

Cardinals certainly give him a chance at a ring, which he's never one.

His xbabip last year was .335, with a .310 babip lol.

And he will mostly get at bats vs lefties.

I can see a .300/.350/.400 in 200 PA this season for the Cardinals, and I wouldn't be shocked with that.

When you couple his at bats will come off lefties, and he is a strong line drive hitter.

    I would.

His 3-year regressed platoon split is only .313/.288

Nice move for STL. He fills a role they need very well.

And to address the shot the OP took at the Dodgers... Ellis hits from the right side just like Guerrero. If the Dodgers wanted a veteran backup for him Kelly Johnson is the guy they should have signed, not Ellis - he can't hit righties at all.

    What shot?

As a Dodger fan I didn't want Ellis back as a platoon partner for Guerrero. I wanted Ellis back in case Guerrero shows he's not capable of playing at the major league level.

I would have also taken Kelly Johnson.

Kelly Johnson isn't that bad of an option at 2B. Obviously not ideal but he's no scrub. The Yankees have a pretty good offensive player at every position except 2B and 3B. You can live with Kelly Johnson hitting 8th or 9th in your lineup and have a very good offense.

Even if we did sign Ellis KJ would have played over him except against lefties anyway.

My bad didn't realize you were a Dodgers fan. I thought you were another team's fan just baiting.
