If we did sign him I'd rather use him at 3B for 2014 and carry a Kelly Johnson/Mark Ellis platoon at 2B.

That's as high as I would go on him. If he wants more, forget him and find someone else.

Solid offer. I'd love this guy on our team because three years $24MM is not an overpay. The guy plays good defense, and has experience playing Second Base Third Base and all three outfield positions. Even though our outfield is loaded you'd be surprised how this versatility will come in handy. Although Infante is a Utility player by "definition", he has enough talent to be the starting Second Baseman on this team for mostly the next 162 games. He's not flashy or showy my any means, but he's a solid welcome addition to this lineup. If the Yankees sign Infante their infield is 80-90% set, because I trust Mark Reynolds/Kelly Johnson to hold their own at third until A rod comes back. If A-Rod doesn't come back at all this season, I can see Cashman making a blockbuster trade for a third basemen, but signing Omar Infante will plug a major hole in this lineup.

Source: Yankees and Infante too far apart for deal.

By Wallace Matthews | December 12, 2013 6:29:51 PM PST

NEW YORK -- The Yankees and free-agent second baseman Omar Infante are separated by approximately $16 million and one year, a gap that a source with knowledge of the negotiations told ESPNNewYork.com was "too far apart" to make a deal likely at this time.

According to the source, the Yankees have offered a three-year contract worth $24 million for the soon-to-be 32-year-old Infante, who hit .318 with 10 home runs and 51 RBIs and had a .345 OBP for the Detroit Tigers last season.

Infante is said to be seeking a four-year deal for $40 million. The source said the Yankees' offer would stand but in the meantime, the club would explore the possibility of a deal for Stephen Drew, who batted .253 with 13 HRs, 67 RBIs and a .333 OBP with the World Series champion Boston Red Sox in 2013, or consider going with the veteran Kelly Johnson, who they signed to a one-year, $3 million contract earlier this month. Johnson batted .235 with 16 HRs, 52 RBIs and a .305 OBP for the Tampa Bay Rays last season

Agreed but Reynolds is a FA so.hes not a guarantee, also his defense is iffy.

Infante is getting dangerously close to Stephen Drew territory. Spend a little more and sign Drew.

I don't want drew or infante. They don't move the Leo Fun Meter.

agree w/ Slick, Im more inclined to get drew who's two years younger and knows how to walk.. whats drew looking for anyways? haven't seen much on his contract demands yet but something tells me infante gonna wait a while for the Reds to join in on the bidding if they can move Phillips out of there

..Who's moving your meter these days Leo?

I thought 3/27 was a good offer before this was announced. Even that contract is not an overpay for Infante.

Like slick said at 4/40 you're getting into Drew's territory. Makes things more difficult.
