Question So which SP do you want the Mets to sign?

Getting ahead of myself a bit but if they sign Granderson what starting pitcher would you like to see most and give a realistic contract expectation.

I'm not including Tanaka, Jimenez, Garza, or Ervin Santana but will feature an other option and you can still come up with numbers because I don't think the Mets pursue a TORP starter and give up an additional draft pick. Kuroda and Moon are probably not options either.

I think we sign Arroyo but I hope Sandy monitors the market of Brett Anderson.

I think they actually go over the budget people are assuming is their cap.

They sign Grandy and Arroyo. Trade Niese for Aybar.

I'd like to see Arroyo/Colon/Feldman whilst also giving Hanson a minor league contract.

If we do sign a starter then I agree with GottaBelieve.

If the budget wasnt 35M and closer to 40-45M, Arroyo/Colon easily. But if it means choosing between Granderson or Arroyo, I'll gladly take someone that will take 5M or less and sign Granderson.

I'm perfectly content with a guy like Scott Baker or Chris Capuano.

But I voted for other. I've always been a fan of Scott Baker and think he could pay huge dividends for us for close to nothing.

Sign Grandy and Drew, keep Niese.

I prefer that scenario. Don't see what there is to gain from dealing a 27 year old pitcher and replacing him with a 37 year old pitcher.

What you gain is a better defensive SS that is likely to be as good or better than Drew in Aybar, for a 3 year/$25.5 million contract. I think Drew will command more than that in FA - and that could hurt the team in 2015 and 2016.

If you are right and Drew simply has no market, then I see your point.

I'm not convinced Aybar is a better defender than Drew honestly. The numbers don't really support that. It's a wash or a slight advantage to Drew. Drew's value is hurt badly by his 11 month ankle injury in-between 2011-2012. Since he was horrible all-around in 2012(not surprising) it makes him look worse than he is.

Strictly defensively, here's how they stack from 2010-2013:

    Drew: -6 DRS, +4.3 UZR/150
    Aybar: -1 DRS, -1.5/UZR/150

    Drew 2012 only: -7 DRS, -14.4 UZR/150

Now all together, I'll compare Aybar and Drew from 2010-2013:

    Drew: 3.24 fWAR/150, 2.93 rWAR/150
    Aybar: 2.81 fWAR/150, 3.29 rWAR/150

So from the same time span, they are a complete wash, BUT I'll say Drew is better because he's clearly not the player he showed in 2012. So if you exclude that horrible year, from that same time span:

    Drew: 4.07 fWAR/150, 3.79 rWAR/150

Even if Drew has a little market, I still want him unless I'm getting a young SS for the future. We wouldn't have to trade a Niese for him. 3/$25M for Aybar comes out to $8.33M AAV, so if Drew gets the $12-13M I expect him to get over 3-4 years, it's still worth it. Drew at 34 years old will still be better than any trash we have in the minors brewing over the next 4 years since Cecchini and Rosario are nowhere near ready.

If I have a choice between Arroyo and Drew, I'm taking Drew every time.

l have a feeling we aren't going to have to choose like is being advertised. Just a feeling.

We don't need a TORP and we don't need a reclamation project. We need a consistent guy to plug in the middle of the rotation that can help out our (soon to be) young bullpen and other young starters with solid innings and efficient outings.

Bronson Arroyo is exactly what I want.

    Josh Johnson

    Oh, wait…

    Scott Kazmir

    Damn…

Those were the two I wanted.

With them off the table…I think I might be alone on this one, but if he is healthy and comes cheap enough, I’d go for Johan. After him, Arroyo. After him, no one else really excites me.

It drives me nuts that we are talking about budget this year. If the right player is out there, we should just get them.
