NPB officials planning to accept MLB proposal for $20MM maximum bid on posting fees (via: @npbtracker) More details: http://bit.ly/1aAvJJW

Just saw this when I got home and didn't see a thread. Wow, I can't believe they are accepting that. Guess Tanaka goes to the Astros?

This makes way more sense. RT @BillShaikin: player choice to negotiate with any club making max bid for rights:

Ok, so the big market teams just spend less money on the bid

Not really Dave Cameron. The Yankees and Red Sox would grab every Japanese player for half of the old cost now.

It says they are trying to impose the max to be 20 mill but Japanese teams aren't liking that, I see it getting to around 30 mill, with the player choosing the teams to negotiate with, because that was the thing the union was most strongly supporting.

I know it's been reported that priority would be given to lower revenue teams, or teams with bad records, but it's not as if the twins and the marlins are the only ones with votes, teams like the dodgers, mets, yankees etc etc would never go for a system that makes it impossible to ever get these players.

MLB offer to NPB was max posting bid $20M, any team willing to pay can negotiate with plyr for prescribed 1-month period. Plyr picks team

So essentially just free agency with a $20 million buy-in to sit at the table.

All this does is control what goes to the Japanese teams.

I don't understand how people can be upset with this.

Keeps more cash here in the stats and in the MLB.

Also, as @dylanohernandez notes, Tanaka's club voted against posting proposal. Club has to agree to post him. More twists and turns to come.
