    Bush: "no more fumbles"

Bush Vows He Won't Fumble Again This Season

Mark Schlereth breaks down Reggie Bush's guarantee on Wednesday not to fumble the ball the rest of the season.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- After two lost fumbles in the past three games, Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush made a guarantee Wednesday.

He won't fumble again this season.

    More From ESPN.com
Reggie Bush has vowed not to fumble again this season, but considering he's lost two in the last three games, it's debatable whether he can honor the pledge, writes Michael Rothstein. Analysis

Bush, in his first year with the Lions, made the guarantee as part of an explanation as to why he has been fumbling more lately.

"Just not thinking enough. Not protecting the ball. Not being aware enough of my surroundings, protecting the ball," Bush said. "Actually, the last game, when I fumbled, I was protecting it as I was going down, I just didn't squeeze it tight enough. That just comes with me mentally, constantly reminding myself, all week throughout practice, of making sure I'm high and tight -- whether I'm going through the hole or whether it's after practice [and] I'm doing a couple extra drills. Just little things like that.

"Those are the things that will help me to make sure that doesn't happen again. And it won't happen again."

Bush has three fumbles this season -- two of them lost. He has never had more than three lost fumbles or more than eight fumbles total in a season, both of which came in the 2007 season.

After losing two fumbles in the Lions' past three games, Reggie Bush guaranteed Wednesday that he won't fumble again this season.
So when asked to clarify whether he was actually making a guarantee, he responded affirmatively.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Bush said. "Yes."

Still, Bush, who has 654 rushing yards and 366 receiving yards this season, feels the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to strip him early in Sunday's game.

In fact, he wouldn't expect anything less.

"Definitely, and they should. That's part of the job," Bush said. "That's part of the job description, to create turnovers on defense. I know they are going to be gunning for the ball, and they are going to be doing everything they can to strip the ball away.

"That's what they do every game. So I just have to, it's on me to make sure it doesn't happen again. It's not so much on them."

I hope he doesn't drop another this year. Say what you want, but I think he got the message after being benched.

Seeing how is always has the ball not secured and in the wrong arm, he will fumble again.

So what happens when he loses explosiveness because he's concerned with ball security?

Bench him til he proves he'll start fumbling again.
