Padres get a $4 million option for 2015 if Johnson doesn't make 7 starts in 2014

He also gets $1.75 million in incentives (26 starts)

It's sort of the perfect deal for both sides it seems like

If the Padres get anything resembling the Johnson from 2012 they got themselves a deal. His health is always a concern.

An absolute steal. Low risk and high reward. He does bad oh well; one year deal and he is gone.

He does good and the Padres are doing well then he helps them. If he does good and the Padres are still retooling then they could deal him for prospects OR QO in the off-season and get a 1st round pick as he is likely to decline and look for his "Greinke-esque" deal.

I thought he would get more. Not a bad risk for the Padres. Good sign for them.

Low risk, but I still think he's toast. Have to still be some questions with his medicals to get that second year clause in there too.

More? This Dude gets injured like Mark Prior. Its the perfect deal. Smart move adding a $4 million team option for 2015 if/when he receives a season ending injury.

He had one major injury, 3 years ago...

The reason the money isn't higher isn't because of injury risk, it's because he sucked *** last year.

Well, the injuries that he had last year almost certainly did factor into this contract. That's obvious from the structure of the contract - incentives for games started and the option if he can't start a minimum number of games

Padres could be the sleeper team in the NL this next yr. I Jobnson stays healthy they quietly have a top 5 rotation and a boatload of younf arms to deal for an impact bat to go with a really quality lineup when healthy. Keep an eye on them

Good deal for both sides. I think it was structured properly to protect both parties.
