Alderson Says Payroll This Season Will Eclipse 2013's 87 Million Dollar Payroll

    Marc Carig ‏@MarcCarig 57m
Mets using payroll figure of $87 million from last season. Alderson says '14 payroll won't be below that number.
Let's see but like Sandman said at least that's the most definitive statement we've got from the FO than all the "kicking of tires" they've been doing.

    Go get talent.

Almost impossible to get to that number without signing atleast 1 guy with a Qualifying Offer.

I think their payroll is somewhere around 50 or so million with guys due for arbitration.

Just a guess, but SA would have to spend roughly $35m to get it to $87m.

The Mets are at 53-57 million with arbitration raises included.
So using 2nd grade math, the Mets have roughly 30-34 million to spend.

Easily the most direct and definitive thing he has ever said, at least with the Mets.

    whats the catch

I used 3rd grade math because of decimals.

starting to look more and more like that....I think i would take my chances with the young pitchers we have and bring in another Quality OF but not sure that is going to happen... probably bring in a few more scrapheap projects and hope we hit gold like Byrd. I do think 1 of Duda/Ike get traded so maybe there we can get something.

Yuck. I liked this a whole lot better when the $30m they had to spend* was nameless and faceless.

    * = which the Mets and all other clubs received overnight due to the TV contracts.

You could regret Peralta at 15 million.

    I'd regret Hart at 8.

Then again, Byrd got 8, so... wow. $30m doesn't sound as big as it used to.

No where in your equation did you use decimals.
And because of that the Wilpons are the devil.
