    Week 11 Update

BIG news this week in the Stat department after the big win over the 49'ers

    OFFENSE

    - Drew Brees is now second the league in passing yardage with 3369, trailing Peyton Manning by around 200 yards

    - Drew's 26 touchdown passes are 2nd in the league behind Peyton's 33. Behind him, Andy Dalton and Tony Romo both have 21

    - on the negative side, Drew's interception numbers are pretty average. Even though he occasionally tries to make things happen that aren't there (8 picks), he's nowhere near Eli Manning's league leading 17.

    - the running game has been improving the last few weeks, but we've definitely got work to do. The Saints are currently one of only 11 teams in the league to rush for less than 1,000 total yards so far. We're improving (up to 3.9 yards per carry as a team and 97 yards per game) but what we've been doing so far isn't going to cut it.

    - the offense as a whole has scored 33 touchdowns, good for 2nd in the league (tie with Seattle and Cincinnati)

    - Jimmy Graham needs to break out of his recent slump to maintain his stat leads. Browns TE Jordan Cameron is right on his heels for receptions (60-56) and Broncos TE Julius Thomas is now tied with Graham for the 2nd most touchdowns in the league (10) behind Megatron (11). CB's have been getting physical with Jimmy since the Aquib Talib at New England and having success.

    - Saints WR's haven't had a lot of luck so far this year. Tons of injuries to key players. Kenny Stills leads the group with 4 touchdowns, while Colston and Moore both have 2. Stills (22.4) and Robert Meachem (23.7) are among league leaders in yards per catch, as the two have proven to be potent deep threats, especially Stills.

    - Despite missing several games, Marques Colston still leads the Saints in yards this season with 529. In the game against San Francisco, Colston also became the Saints all time receiving yardage leader for those who missed it.

    DEFENSE

    - The BIG news is the Saints defense! With the win over the 49'ers (only allowing 196 yards), the Saints unit has risen to the 4th ranked defense in total yardage! We were the WORST DEFENSE EVER last year. Rob Ryan's turnaround is just incredible. Only the Panthers, Texans, and Seahawks have stingier defenses when it comes to total yards.

    - In yards per play, the Saints defense is very average however, ranking 15th in the league. Still a sign of how far we've come after last season

    - More important than these other defensive stats is scoring defense. This is the true measure of the unit and the Saints have NOT disappointed. We're 5th in points per game allowed and 6th in total points allowed

    - the weak point of the defense is definitely against the run. The Saints are 17th in the NFL and allow almost 5 yards per carry. As we saw tonight, the offense won't always score a lot of points, so this is still something that needs to be improved.

    - against the pass, the Saints are ranked an unbelievable 3rd in the league and allow only 191.4 passing yards per game

    - though no individual player on the Saints has double digit sacks (so far), the team is doing well in that category. We're 6th in the league with 32 sacks so far on the year. Our leader in that category is DE Cameron Jordan (7) with Junior Galette (6) right behind him.

Yeah, Peyton looks well on his way to another one. Not that it isn't at least deserved this year. Brees was robbed in 2009 and he should have been a LOT closer to 1st place in the voting than he was in 2011

Agreed on both! 2009 was a travesty of justice! Manning beat Brees 39.5 to 7.5. Makes me want to puke.
