Sox Sign Mike McCoy, Tommy Layne to minor league deals

Red Sox signed INF/OF Mike McCoy to a minor league contract.

He should be invited to spring training. McCoy has batted only .190/.273/.256 across parts of four seasons as a utility player, but he has some speed and plays all over the diamond. Expect him to
begin the year at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Red Sox signed LHP Tommy Layne to a minor league contract.

He seems likely to receive an invitation to spring training. Layne spent most of 2013 at Triple-A with the Padres, but he put up a 2.84 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 25 1/3 innings the last two seasons at the big league level. He'll likely wind up as depth in the minors.

All look like depth signings at best but who knows? Maybe they could make the team, best of luck to them.
    Favourite Teams:

Boston Red Sox: 5-8, games this week vs. Chicago White Sox (3), Baltimore (3)
Indianapolis Colts: 11-5, 2013 AFC South Champs, great season guys.
Looking for new NBA team to cheer for
Ottawa Senators: 37-31-14, season over, good effort guys.

Layne looks as though he may be somewhat use full at some point
